Hello all,
Long time lurker/reader and seldom poster. However I just wanted to say thanks for the wealth of technical knowlege as it was a huge help! I have a '90 4x4 2500 Silverado that for the last 15K miles (188,000 on odometer) had been surging at red lights where the idle would dip then overcompensate. I lived with it as long as I could and then it finally just started idling high. I had never received a SES light, but it was becoming un-livable and after nearly pushing a Prius under the bus at an intersection I dove into it. Ran the ohm test on the TPS and it checked out fine, and the brakes have always felt right so no vacuum leak there. Only thing left was the IAC valve. $70 dollars later, my Silverado is back to civilized.

Thanks to all who have contributed.....it was most helpful. Keep up the good work!

Welcome. Glad you got the Silverado sorted out.
You may be the first guy that I have heard of that can rule out a vacume leak by the feel of the brakes.:thumb:

I was going to say the same thing, but......

I had a high idle problem on my 88 Sub and when I sorted out all of the vacuum leaks out, (I had 5 total), I did notice that my brake pedal seemed a lot firmer than before. It sounds crazy, but I can understand where he's coming from on this one.
