If God had a 4x4

I would rather have portals because the reduction gearboxes on the end divert a lot of the stress downstream and can use smaller diffs and axleshafts, whereas this axle your running a 9" center, through like eight u-joints that will see the full stress of whatever power is coming from the driveshaft.

I wonder if there is any real world testing on these things. The only pictures Iv seen of these things are by themselves on the grass. Put one in a vehicle with gobs of power and weight, take it to the Hammers and then advertise it. ;)

I'd be willing to bet for the cost of 1 of those axels you could probably get 2 2 1/2ton rockwells with gears to boot! Really not worth it. They look awesome but I'm sure the headache and price are not worth it!

Portals are the way to go plain and simple. It allows for a larger pinion, smaller ring gear, and adds clearance under your diff. Whats not to like?

All those U-joints are just a problem waiting to happen. You would have to run need bearing type U-joints, and imagine if you were to spit a cap out? I have done so with my Dana 60 front and it at least had somewhere to go. What would happen to an axle that has 4 U-joints per side instead of only 1! In that tube? There goes your expensive axleshafts, housing and blah blah blah. Not worth it.

I aggree with portal tech.

I am not saying that it couldn't be fixed on the trail, just that it looks like it would be a huge PITA. I am not a fan of things that are (or appear to me to be) unnecessarily complicated for trail use. K.I.S.S.

No kidding, isn't the weekest point something you should be able to get to?
Don't get me wrong they look killer, but when did protals or rockwells become not enough?

Maybe some of the guys in the salary poll making the big bucks shoudl test these and let us know how they work out long term :wink1:

I think God runs 2" shafted Rockies...
