Since it's an old thread and it's kinda derailed, I'm going to hijack it for a minute:
Why do people buy pristine 88-91 K5's and turn them into tube-buggy-and-otherwise-impractical trail rigs? (No offense Steve) Those particular variation of the K5 are rare and very nice rigs. There are plenty of old no-option beaters like mine that I really don't mind being tore up, but I find no sense in doing such to a really nice one. Just a personal peeve/wonder/head scratcher, not trying to piss anyone off, just curious. [/hijack]
Back on topic: if I were to do it all over again, I couldn't. I haven't done it in the first place, so how can I do it again? "How can I have s'more if I haven't had anything?" (Name that movie) But, my plan is to fix my 81 to be a highly capable, self-sustaining expedition rig. Lockers front and rear, winch, onboard air, Fuel-injected I-6, onboard water and 120v outlet. Make it capable of being out in the woods for a week and be happy doing it. That's what I'd do.
