When I first turn it its really hard to turn enough to start. If I have to do it a 2nd , 3rd or 4th time its real easy to turn( my choke isnt working). What might be wrong, where should I look or lube?

I'd try a sparing amount of WD-40 to get in there and clean/loosen it up - spray it in then work the cylinder back and forth several times. Once it's working normally I'd then spray some alcohol-based cleaner in there to dry it up, blw it out with and air hose, then add dry graphite lube.

i TRIED THE graphite lube , it helped a tiny tiny bit for a little while.I`ll give your idea a try in a few days.
Thanks

Anyone know some brand name alcohol-based cleaners?I cant think of any...

Just put a new lock cylinder in. They're only about 15.00 and only take about 10 minutes to install.

wd40 shouldnt hurt anything if left in there....it was originally intended as electrical contact cleaner, but may gum up as dust gets in there

Some of the cheaper brake cleaners are alcohol based, just look on the can (don't use the acetone as it may eat plastic parts)...it's just someting to get in there after the WD-40 and get the residue out.

may gum up as dust gets in there
Exactly.

Thats a real problem here in the deseart.
Thanks longbedder I did the ED-40 tonight. When I went back out 3 hours later it twisted real easy (compared to before).

LOL its even better today, feels just like my wifes car`s IGN.
Thanks again!! :)

Try something for me. Even though it appears that spraying the lock cylinder made it better, the real problem is probably the slide that controls the lock mechanism for the steering wheel. The first time you try to turn the cylinder, it has to pull that lock rod back, then even if you try three or four more times afterwards it will be easy to turn. If it is this, try spraying (even though it is a pain) the actual slide and gear mechanism at the far end of the lock cylinder. This is a pretty common problem.

How do I get to it? Being disabled I might need to get some one(wife :O ) to do it.

But today it was easy from the first to turn  I dunno....

It is a pain, since everything in the top of the column needs to come out to access it. They tend to build up dirt and debris around them and then they stick. Sometimes lubing the cylinder will cause enough lube to leak through and allow it to work for a while. If it starts sticking again, consider doing the operation above. You have to remove the turn signal switch to get to where you can see the lock rod. It will be a piece of steel that when you turn the lock cylinder it moves away from the steering wheel.

So its just sitting in the seat working? No crawling under the dash?

Correct. You remove the steering wheel and the turn signal switch and you can see a steel rod with a taper on the end facing you. If you turn the lock cylinder you will see it move when going from lock to start and back. That is where I have seen a lot of problems with gunk building up since it needs a small amount of grease on it. That grease collects all the dust and debris that gets into the column.
