I have the weirdest problem now it seems :(

Basically when I got the rig ('78 K5 400/TH350/NP203) the ignition lock cylinder was toast and needed to be replaced. It had the earlier style cylinder without the torx "bolt-through" 2nd design, it is the early design that just pops in.

What is happening is, if I crank over the motor and the key is in the run position, the gear shift lever (column shift TH350) binds up bad and won't shift.

If I move the key position to off, the gear shift lever will operate normally and get into all gears fine, but once it goes forward into crank and then run position, the shift lever binds.

If I try and jam it into Drive from Park it will force the key off and shut down.

I can also start the K5 in Neutral, but then it binds again and barely reaches drive and stops.

Any advice?

to me it sounds like the key cylinder gear and the ignition switch rod rack are not timed correctly

Is there a site or something that shows the correct way to set the timing on the rod rack? I agree with you
