I'm a Blazer owner!

If the truck is done right I would say that's a fair number. Looks awesome in the pics and I really dig the color combo.

Love to see some better pics once you get your hands on it.

original 350/TH350/np205 ?

What's the black box on the drivers fender, almost looks like a computer?

Just to be that guy....

Clean the cheesy wiring up a little bit if you can.

Ha yeah I noticed that too. There's gonna be some stuff like that. I mean, there's a reason why it's 25 and not 30+. I also don't like the current steering wheel and I'm sure the after-market cruise control is a little wonky (It did come with the factory tilt though, so that's nice). So there are some decisions the last guy made that I'll be reversing--or fixing.

I'll probably invest in a great sound system, as that's pretty important to me. Also considering a roll cage at some point. Anyone have thoughts on the roll cage? I have a kid and another likely in the foreseeable future and I'd like to make the rig as safe as possible. Is a roll cage worth it? Or is it just an aesthetic upgrade. And yes, I'll be looking into seat belt upgrades for all the seats.

Thanks for the comments y'all! I'm pretty damn excited!

Yeah, I'll post more when I get it, for sure.

I'm not sure what that box is. My total guess would be that it's either something to do with the stereo system or the brain for the after-market cruise control.

Wow! :waytogo:
Beautiful for sure! I think that is a fair price.
What is the dealer you bought it from...looks like quite the collection of awesome over there!

Just to be a dink...I would change the steering wheel, get the proper rings for the rallys "It has vette rings on it now" and put a stock air filter on.

Or leave it just like it is!! Super nice blazer man! :thumb:

Can you tell me the difference between the rally rings and corvette rings?

I got it from Worldwide Vintage Autos in Denver. Went to their shop awhile back and it was impressive, to say the least. Lots of cars. Lots of 4x4's especially. Look them up, great eye candy.

Merry Christmas to me! Finally bought my dream rig: a 72 Blazer CST. It hasn't been delivered yet, but I'm anxiously awaiting its arrival in a few days (hopefully).

I've been a lurker on this site for awhile and want to thank y'all for your great posts. They helped me pick the right Blazer for me. Looking forward to giving back to the forum what I've gleaned.

Here are some pics!

Congrats on the purchase! :waytogo:

The truck looks really nice, and there aren't too many things that need to be changed to make it REALLY nice... I agree that the steering wheel really looks out of place, as does that big double-din head unit where the AM radio belongs.

You can add a simple wood-rimmed 3-spoke steering wheel which would be more period correct and a thin spoke design will insure that you can still see all your gauges. Most modern steering wheels block all of your sight lines... The original steering wheel was an enormous diameter (like a school bus) so even something like a 14" or 15" wheel is going to quicken the steering a bit.

A simple 4-point rollcage would be simple to add. Just a few holes to drill and it should fit easily under the factory hardtop. Adding front A-pillar bars is a lot more work to do well... Most just run along the front of the dash and block the AC vents and window cranks (and glovebox door).

Do you live in the Carolinas? That truck looks exactly like one I saw on craigslist a few months ago...It was a 72, same color combo and everything and was for sale at the same price.

No, I don't live on the east coast. But I wouldn't be surprised if you saw the truck there. I bought it from a classic car dealership in Denver. So, it's possible it was shipped to the dealer from the EC.

The Vette rings are wider and have less retaining clips.

So, by wider, do you mean deeper? Or, the diameter of the ring is wider? If the diameter is wider, does that mean that the tire hole diameter is wider to accomodate the wider ring?

Sorry...I just want to make sure this won't effect how I go about buying new tires at some point.

Thanks for the info and pictures. I really appreciate it!

Yeah just deeper in looks...no reason not to run them.
Just every once in a while some joker will tell you that they are Corvette rings! :D

To echo what Greg was saying, the 4 point cage would still keep the truck looking nice but safer. Two posts at the tailgate ( C hoop) and two posts behind the front seats (B hoop). Connect the two with some cross tubes and a little "trianglativity". That will work really good except might look funny with the top off since it's a full vert.

Ok, yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking too. Something simple, but effective. I'd like to stay away from putting any bars ahead of the front seats, seems to clutter things too much. Plus, I'm not in any real danger of rolling this thing. I'm not taking it off road into anything too hairy.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Those wheels were not yet available in 1972. They are not original to that Blazer.

You must be right. I wasn't able to find anything that mentioned these kind of wheels as an option. At least, not a factory option. I was under the impression that these were the original wheels, but I guess not. Unless they were put on the truck by the dealer...again, maybe not.

It also doesn't have the original wood-grain door panels that would have originally come with the CST package. I'm finding those hard to come by, original or reproduction. But I find some, I'll probably swap those in instead of the ones currently on the truck.

Thanks for catching that on the wheels!

Good luck finding those door panels with the woodgrain--my '72 K5 had its doors stolen in 1984 right after a 2 foot blizzard struck, and the body shop that got the job to find used ones to replace them tried all over the USA to find those door panels--found the "last one" listed in stock at some Chevy dealership in Oklahoma ,I never did see another one the 5 years after that I owned it either--so I had one CST woodgrained panel on the right door, and a "standard" vinyl one on the drivers door...

I often wonder if whoever swiped the doors only wanted the panels, because the doors were no real prize, they had been skinned on the bottom with tin and pop rivets covered by bondo...

Enjoy the process.....

You will certainly find things that aren't "correct" or "original" for a 1972 CST but searching for parts will just be one of those things that you do from now on... There will always be a running list in your head of parts you are on the lookout for.... And when you finally see something at a swap meet or on Craigslist you can grab it and then add it to your "truck puzzle"... Don't let the fact that your truck is not 100% correct stop you from enjoying it every day. These old trucks are a constant work-in-progress! :)
