I'm getting excited... its gonna be a long night.. UPDATE POST 40... debate solved

ummm, if that's what you think. It doesn't work like that though.

You know how this forum works - it seems like no two people can agree on the same thing, ever. But, several people have expessed concern of the loading method of this 'burb. There must be something to it.

I haven't stirred up a pot for a long time so, if you look at the angle of the bed and the angle of the trailer they do make a v. A very obtuse angle to be sure but an angle all the same.

when I see this I cant help but think of a boat sided burb... nothing major..just up to the lower hinge..

:)

PLEASE tell me you don't plan on towing with the burb on backwards. That is a BIG NO NO.
Listen to this guy. I used to trailer a bobcat with an 06 F-150 (company truck). If the tongue weight wasn't perfect, I was either dragging the hitch or swaying like crazy. One afternoon on the way back to the shop, the Bobcat was about 4 inches too far back on the trailer, and I started getting some baaaad sway, to the point where I couldn't get it back under control. I've always heard that the best way to get rid of sway is to throttle out of it (that **** doesn't work, don't try it). So here I am in an underpowered truck towing an overweight trailer that's swaying from one lane into the other with my foot buried in the throttle, and I realize the truck in the other lane coming at me is my mom's. She had to run off the road to avoid getting hit. I finally got it under control thanks to the trailer brakes, but I had to do 35mph the whole way back to the shop.

My point? Four inches made the difference between me towing the load safely and me nearly killing my mom.

just to let you guys know I met up with james last night and he had his burb loaded far enough back to get plenty of tongue weight. I think his particular setup pulled fine.

A little off of subject here (note sarcasm): Post some pics of mudding, or whatever reason you originally loaded it on the trailer for.

If it was to stir up stuff, congrats you did it.:D

Hey Robert, what sux is 5 minutes after you left, the playtime began.. There wasn't a big group doing play time... we got to go twice in like 5 minutes.. the burb OWNED that bog.. and we exited on the big hill to the side....

Then we decided to go through it backwards... everybody was cheering and screaming. We tried to back over the hill, but got hung up thanks to my breakover angle, but a dude pulled us out.. all in all it was a very fun night.

We were so excited we never thought to try to get any action shots.. never think of that :doah:

The burb won't fit foward on the trailer. Its very open roads, no interstate. I take it slow and carefully. In the future, I think I'm just going to save up alot of fuel, and try to drive my burb 70 miles down there..

Ever weighed a 'burb for axle weight?
I have. My '79 3/4t w/ an SBC/TH400/208 was within 100 lbs of the same weight on each axle. I.E. almost perfectly 50/50 weight distribution. Really hard to believe unless you've seen it b/c it sure doesn't look like it would work out that way.
With a rig like a K5 that is likely nose heavy the concerns voiced are very real.

So I agree with pvfjr, which ever way gets the tongue weight right is good to go!

'ell, I shoot photos of everybody else and usually don't have any of me..........

i towed this from san diego to l.a. and drove about 65mph the whole way. it would start to sway at about 70mph. nobody's family got killed at all. i loaded the truck engine forward the first time, but it was too much tongue weight.

All the difference in weight between a K5 and a Burb, is behind the front doors, glass and steel.:D

Couple things, one look at that burb on the trailer, you can tell its heavy on the front of the trailer, and it looks it wouldn't fit backwards with those ramps. And burbs seem to be very heavy in the back to me.

I've towed with my 77 on Mountainexplorers trailer backwards with his 81 crew. I really didn't have a choice, my ragjoint was broken and my truck was pulled into my shop, so I had to back it out onto the trailer. I never had any problem, and his crewcab I think was heavier than my K20 and his trailer combined.

Also anyone who has had there trailer sway on them at how fast? I would never do 70mph while pulling fullsize truck on a trailer. My opinion better slow and safe than sorry.

And to the original thread, that burb looks kickass lifted and painted like that, I love it.

If you call 70 miles away local... kinda far for a vehicle that I don't consider reliable/ streetworthy.. and something can always break in the bog.. its nice to be able to drive it hard and not worry about it getting me home... but I may try to man up and drive it down next time....

Driving it there & back puts a different twist on things.

Then I'm reminded of a certain purty 2wd pre-rnner late 60's Chevy truck with a steeker on the windshiled hoop that read something like "Remember dumba$$, you're driving this home." He looped it. It's in the first of the "dezert people" vid series.

No idea what the F/R weight bias of a K5 is, but I betting that a Sub at ~49.5%/50.5% is a LOT closer to 50/50 than a K5 is.

Update

ok guys, I now own the trailer. Simply because of this thread I decided to try to load my burb up fowards, and believe it or not, it DOES fit perfectly fowards. Towed it down to elko again last night, but it fishtailed violently loaded fowards. So bad that I almost stopped and unloaded it and swaped it around, I probably should have, but I just rode down there slowly. Needless to say I towed with it backwards on the way back home. So appearantly with my weight distribution and this particular trailer, towing fowards is a big no no. :eek1:
