I\'m getting old i guess...need wanker exhaust help

So when I go to replace my tranny, I find that the last moro...ahem previous owner that had my truck routed the exhaust right on top of the transfercase. The tcase wore a hole in the exhaust and now I have a nice hole about the size of a quarter. Makes for a great exhaust note. As good as the exhaust now sounds, I've been wanting to redo it anyway /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif.

Right now I have cheapo looking headers, no cats, and 40 series dual exhaust. I'm thinking of going to manifolds of some type, a y pipe, a cat, and single exhaust through a quiet type of muffler. A friend has a 70 series that he said i could have, but hinted that a cat and 70 series might not fit in a K5. What I'm looking for here is simple, reliable, and quiet. I'd like to know there's a V8 in there when i really get on it, but the 40 series are way too loud on a DD with no carpet and linex'd interior. Please give me your opinions on what you'd do and why /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif!

Thanks!

Bryan

Bryan,

Go with 3" Single exhaust and you will be pleased. My truck sounds like a Drag Car when I get on it, but drives down the road while I listen to crickets chirp. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

Re: I\'m getting old i guess...need wanker exhaust help

what muffler are you running?

Re: I\'m getting old i guess...need wanker exhaust help

I've tried single 3", too loud for me, went back to 2.5" and a Midas muffler. I had a Ravin free-flow muffler in it for a while - WAY TOO LOUD. Maybe it's just me, but I did not notice a performance decrease when I went back to a regular muffler. I like it when my truck is quiet, and I like the Midas warranty. Turned out the exhaust rattle I was chasing in and after Fulton was a small crack at the muffler inlet - they replaced the whole muffler for free.

Dynomax welded race muffler from Summit.

Re: I\'m getting old i guess...need wanker exhaust help

Ive got 3" single and love it. Its loud because I dont run a muffler.

Re: I\'m getting old i guess...need wanker exhaust help

I run wrapped 2" into a Y collector near the back of the trans pan, 3" back past case to a single 2.5" high quality louvered LONG glass pack (36"??) and then dump out the back with 2.5". This is quite nice just getting around, pretty nice little rumple, not loud, and no "popping". But, it will let you know when you really get into it. Still not loud, but has a sound I like in an open buggy...

I really like running long glass packs. Really strong case, small/compact for easy location without loosing all your room underneath, and a long glass pack is quiter than most FlowMasters and such...

Same setup I have, I run a MaganFlow muffler I beleive it is the only muffler you can look straight threw (no restriction) but isn't really noisy at all.

Re: I\'m getting old i guess...need wanker exhaust help

I have a 2.5" tailpipe I dont think I'm going to use (you would have to get cat/muffler and ypipe). Or you could buy from a CK5 member
cat back section
Cat
Just add manifolds and y-pipe

Now that you said that Jeremiah you reminded me of something.

MudFrog sells exhaust stuff. Contact him and see what he can do. He hooked me up with a Dynomax High Flow Cat for cheap /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

EDIT: I shouldve clicked the links in Jeremiah's post cause that is MudFrog. haha /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif

Re: I\'m getting old i guess...need wanker exhaust help

I have 2 1/4 duals with two thrush 23.99 mufflers its pretty quiet, you can tell its not a 6 but its not obnoxious at all.

Re: I\'m getting old i guess...need wanker exhaust help

Well i ended up buying a Flowmaster 50 series Delta flow online and will be installing it, a cat, and manifolds, along with 3" throughout next week. I'll let yall know how it turns out!

Re: I\'m getting old i guess...need wanker exhaust help

I have a 350/full length headers/homemade balance tube/ 2 1/4" duals. I run summit mufflers that i got from a friend, real quiet, /forums/images/graemlins/ears.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ears.gif almost silent at idle but you can definitely hear when I get into it. Driving down the road the tires make more noise than the exhaust. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

It might be the mufflers or the H-pipe, not sure but its pretty quiet.

ya know christmas is coming on real quick and there's someone down yonder that wouldn't mind having a set of 40 series flows..... /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Lol with the big 'hawgs we've got for tires, you act like that's an accomplishment!!

Re: I\'m getting old i guess...need wanker exhaust help

Not an accomplishment, not bragging about noise of tires or lack thereof from the exhaust. A stereo that drowns out swampers and no mufflers at 75 would be an accomplishment.

Re: I\'m getting old i guess...need wanker exhaust help

That's exactly what I put behind my Thorley's.I think the 50 series is too loud in my K5, the resonance is deafening at certain RPM's. The exhaust shop did a sweet job of routing the crossover up over the rear driveshaft right behind the transfer case and then tucking the muffler up next to the frame with a single 3" dumping right behind the rear axle. I could drop the tranny without having to mess with the exhaust at all. I'd like to go to a 70 series, but I think it might be too long to fit where the 50 is now. I've got pics of my exhaust I could upload if you want.

I used to have that, too. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
