so you can swap your, say 70s pickup to tbi and they will test you based on tbi imissions? for what year tbi? are all tbis tested the same 87-95?
likewise, if a 6.0 liter is swapped in out of say an 04, do they test you based on 2004 imissions standards?
if you have a diesel, do you even go to the smog test station?
First: any vehicle 75 or older does not get smogged.
Any diesel before 98 does not get smogged.
76 and up gas and 98 and up diesel get smogged.
When you put an engine in from a newer truck, your new requirements are the newer engine requirements.
If you have a gas engine and you put a diesel engine in, you get changed to diesel and if it's 97 or older you don't get smogged there after, but it's not legal to put a gas engine in a diesel truck without meating the gas engine requirements for smog so since it's popular to have a diesel truck with a gas engine to escape the smog, they are starting to look under the hood of diesel badged trucks.
Some guys have rebadged them gas so they don't raise any flags.
I had trucks that were diesel and people bought them with bad engines or without engines to put gas engines in them.
I don't care what they do, but I wouldn't do it.
In fact I am collecting diesel engines and putting one in each vehicle I have, even the older ones that are not required to smog.
