I'm having a serious wtf moment, here....

I can't tell you for sure, but the smog guy I believe can.
I know the test cost is counted, but I think it's only after a failed smog test that the expenses are counted, but do not quote me on it.
Maybe you can go on the CA website and find out.:dunno:
I do know the $500 limit and since I never reached it, I didn't investigate more.

Thats not how it works btw.

IF your car fails and you are lower income, you may qualify for $500 from the .gov for smog repairs.... that is it.

you still fail o well. the .gov may buy your car if you meet certain restrictions and "retire" it and give you 1k-5k.

I didn't mention this one because he doesn't qualify, that is another program.
What I talked about is there, unless they discontinued it this year, and you can ask any smog shop they all know about it.

Im willing to bet that if you put a cat on it, and get your timing to 0, it will pass smog.

Mebbe....

I'm gonna go get an "I failed smog" number...
Ya know, the big stupid red square thingy....? :haha:

Then, I'll start fixin' it, or tear it apart when the number comes up.. :dunno:

Issam, you still need to apply for and use the c.a.p. thing that I posted to qualify.

Then if it still doesn't pass you may qualify for the extension. If it is still around.

Sounds like a bunch of leg work

Not sure I understand the problem here. If you have a "chip" just set the base timing to 0 and go do the smog test. The ECU will override the base timing once started and set the timing to whatever was programmed.

On my 383 I had to set the base timing to 6 degrees because it was hard to start otherwise. But once its running the ecu take control of the timing. If you dont have a hard start issue then you just need to get whoever programmed you chip to add the timing back that you lose by moving it from 5 to 0.

Yeah I read that, but that is new, it used to be spend $450 in repairs and if it still fails you get a free pass, now you have to also get the $500 from the state to help repair it but then you need to qualify for it.
What if you can afford to spend more then you can't get anything...:dunno:
Things have changed for the worse, more help for the lazy less for the good people.:doah:

not the "pull me over" red month square paper on the back of the truck...I always get pulled over when im rockin that stupid red square.

I helped my buddy smog an 89 blazer, the tech couldn't get it to pass, so he undid the timing connnector and ran it and it passed. When he was done, he said he had to do something 'special' to make it pass, I told him what, unplug the timing advance connector? I don't know how legal that was, but it worked...

Its legal because thats what HAS to be done ot test timing. If the tech doesnt disconnect the advance the timing will never be right!

In my part of Texas we don't have smog testing, only a safety inspection. I love taking the 91 burb and the 86 J**p with no smog pump or air injection rails in for an "inspection".

Just make it run on propane, get it smog exempt. And take all the propane running stuff off. Boom no more smog and since a ref sticker doesn't specify what fuel you run on if you do get pulled over and asked, you have a smog exempt sicker and that's all you know.

I thought that whole propane retrofit didn't work anymore.

And iirc it lists your vehicle as N alternative fuel vehicle on your reg, so the Leo is gonna see that
