It has taking me since 7am to do the simple little job of replacing a thermostat, I am certianly no mechanic, but it shouldnt take 5 hours to do :haha:

Enter the Supercharger. I had to Uninstall the whole SC to get to the t-stat. I am pretty much over the "cool" factor of having it. I rarely ever push the truck to get any boost anyhow. SO, for simplicity sake, im looking to just uninstall it completely and go back stock and sell the thing. If I ever had to replace the dizzy, egr, wires, or anything else back or under there it would be such a total pain in the arse, especially if I was on the road.

I down loaded the installation instructions from Whipple, I'm pretty much following those in reverse. Can any of you guys post a picture of your stock 350 configuration? I'm looking for belt routing, hose, vacuum lines etc

Anyone think I could get away with just slapping the TBI back on there and finding the stock aircleaner??

Thanks!

all the carnage for a T-stat swap. ( old one was stuck open )

oNE MILLLLlLLlION dollars !?!?

Maybe that would depend on how much it takes to return to stock :waytogo:

Not much help on the supercharger aspect, but from what little I can see looks like most if not all of the TBI connectors are there.

What all was changed to put the SC on there? Did that require a different MAP sensor, ECM, and PROM? I assume it did, but those are pretty easy to find and swap back to normal. If the cam was changed, depending on profile, that may require a custom prom.

Since it's already a TBI truck, I would assume an interested party could be found with the same vintage truck, and you swap them components, plus whatever you need in $$ over that.

Lets trade. All my factory stuff for all your custom stuff. Done, See, That was easy. Get me your address, I will have it packed up and ready for shipping on Monday.

Just say the word and its done!

hey!
its only $200 away from being fixed as it is. and supercharging never hurt no body.

except for the OP...
Really doesn't "hurt" till you spend a day replacing a T-stat :doah:And the price for premium fuel :doah:and the COMPLETE lack of support form Whipple:doah:And not being able to have cruise control :doah:

Okay, so I really don't care about the Cruise control

Ill swap somebody for a Detroit tho! :waytogo:

Don't do it just keep the sc on there. I know a shop off 287 and blue mound road that deals alot in whipples and can help you out with the sc.

And not being able to have cruise control :doah:
When I ditched the Q-jet setup and put TPI on, I took the stock cruise module and mounted it on the inner fender, just by making a bracket to hold it and the end of a cable. Tons of GM FWD cars have a "double" cable to the throttle that attaches perfectly for this, just by getting rid of the second cable. It is still running using un-altered factory wiring.

You need to run premium with a supercharger? :dunno:
You don't have to. You could keep the boost down to like 2psi, you could pull the timing way back to get a little more, but to take advantage of boost you need some octane. Boost is somewhat like a high compression ratio.

It's not a matter of not liking the extra power at all. I love the on demand horses! It's a reliability and liability to me, if I'm 100 miles away from the nearest town, bird hunting this September, and the something happens with the distributor I'd be screwed. Would have to pull the whole SC to get to it. Same with the T stat. Simple repairs with limited tools suddenly become a big deal.

If there is a way aroun this, I'd be all in!

Not much to do as far as the dizzy, but im pretty sure that you can buy an in line thermostat setup to run in the rubber hose itself. That would get your tstat out in the open to change easily.

It seems like you're worrying over something very small which has a small chance of failing. If the setup has been working for a while, a stock TBI system will probably be more work and maybe introduce new problems that you don't have now.

I would just fix what you have and call it a day.
