I'm tired of having no plan and being basically clueless....

Re: I\'m tired of having no plan and being basically clueless....

First of all, say **** the budjet. Start over and buy a new suspension lift. Build it as you can afford it. I'm running Superlift "Soft-ride" 6" lift springs up front. I like them, rides pretty good. If I had to do it all over again, I'd probley go with BDS. I'd really like to go with the crossover steering myself. I do plan on Springer Suspension for the rear.

Re: I\'m tired of having no plan and being basically clueless....

My opinions -
Buy crossover steering. DOn't worry about ram assist at this time.
Shackle flip (the echobit one is nice. You can use the atron blocks to recenter the wheel and correct pinion angle.)
You'll need to do the driveshafts. Get 1350 yokes front and rear. If you can't afford 1350 in the front, then OK run 1310 but go 1350 in the rear.
Detroit locker for 14 bolt.
Then, with the leftover money buy stuff like SS braided brake lines. I think that 14 bolt in the pic has discs, but if it doesn't then go disc.

Re: I\'m tired of having no plan and being basically clueless....

but if the ram is already on there, and she needs to have the box redone for the x-over, why not just tap it and run the lines?

Re: I\'m tired of having no plan and being basically clueless....

Well since I don't have the cross over in front of me (I don't have it on my truck) I can't say anything, but I am sure that when I have it in front of me to study I will come up with a way to have sway bars on it.
Would you pay me for a cross over if I make the design for you to hook a sway bar?

Re: I\'m tired of having no plan and being basically clueless....

Well some of your prices are off but all together they add up to the right amount. Where did you find a detroit for 14bFF for only 300? the lowest I found was 327 and that's vefore shipping and tax.
100 for trimming the fenders?
Is that what you charge people for having fun?
Just pay me 25 bucks for the cost of the blades and I will gladly do it for ya.
I like your new look by the way /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
Steph: I have 2 RS9012's that I bought by mistake and they didn't fit on my Jeep, you can buy them from me.
And my offer still stands when you decide you want to work on it. And as far as designing the suspension or shock mounts, I can make it work ...

Re: I\'m tired of having no plan and being basically clueless....

Im running a swaybar and crossover steering on a D44. Is there a difference on the D60 which wont allow you to run both?

Re: I\'m tired of having no plan and being basically clueless....

Pics please of the sway bar in use with the crossover. /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif

Re: I\'m tired of having no plan and being basically clueless....

Since I can only imagine it, I would say the only problem would be if you drop the sway bar with blocks.
Keep it in the stock position and make longer quick disconnects like the Jeep ones and that way you will only have bars going down far from the cross over drag link, as opposed to 2 bars going from front to back which may hit the cross over drag link when flexing it.
Did I get it right ?

Re: I\'m tired of having no plan and being basically clueless....

Steph,

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH THE Blazer???

I am surprised no one has asked this already. As it is usually the first question asked to newbies, although I know your not a newbie, but I don't know what your going to do with the Blazer.

Perhaps everyone else here does know???

From what I read - you take your Blazer camping.... Does this include mud? Rock trails? A little of both?

For the most part I am with Iceman on this, I can help too, although I am not sure when. More than likely after the holidaze.

I presume you have a dry, HEATED garage??? /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I bought mine for $300 from Randy's Ring & Pinion.
Someone else said Drivetrain Direct would sell them to you for that if you asked.
I bet 4WPW would if you told them you'd buy it right then.

Re: I\'m tired of having no plan and being basically clueless....

I was checking all the above mentionned and the cheapest was Randy's ring and pinion and it was 329 or something like that.
Not 300.
And that is without shipping and tax, and I am not sure which companies don't charge you tax if you are from sa different state.

So you have 5 others interested in the hoops also

[/ QUOTE ]

mmmm more like 6 cuz I want them too /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. as far as shocks on my rear with 6 inch of lift ( flip and 2 inch rancho springs ) on the stock shock mounts I could fit 9012s with out a problem because the shock mounts on the axle hang down so low. ( driver side I had to mount upside down because the shock mount on axle rotated from the flip and shock body was hitting shock mount ). Now id did convert my rear to duals and honesty il never go back. the ride is smooth ( both set to 1 ) but the sway has been reduced by ALOT. much more controlled.

Just a thought. If you do the flip in the rear or use 57" springs. Maybe you or someone could help you move your front spring mounts up about 3 inch and mount your 52" rears on the front and get some serouis flex up there.

Also Trimming is a piece of cake if you have/get/borrow a sawzall. I put up a flat piece of cardboard where i wanted the cut and drew a line with a black marker and went at it...took about 10 min to do both sides. sawzall cut it like it was butter.

Also I went with a cv rear drive shaft and It madee it much smoother . plus you can get the correct yoke on it for the 14 bolt.

Id go with the crossover but Id wait till the very end to do the hydro just so I have everything set up and can figureout where I would run the lines ect ect. plus you could still drive it if you didnt have the cash to complete that part at that time.

One question I do have on those shock hoops. How long of a shock to they allow you to run...im in to prerunnuing and I want to go to dual external bypass in the front and would rather avoid the cost to custom hoops.

Re: I\'m tired of having no plan and being basically clueless....

I am ahead of you on this one, I am making a front mount for my rear springs to go in the front.
I did that for a Van I converted to 4wd and it makes sense.

Re: I\'m tired of having no plan and being basically clueless....

Drivetrain Direct should give it to you for $315 including shipping if you ask them nicely. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: I\'m tired of having no plan and being basically clueless....

Randy's runs specials on them from time to time. A few people have gotten them for $300 delieved. They have 4WPW during an old "no shipping" price match Randy's.

Re: I\'m tired of having no plan and being basically clueless....

TopOff:
No more sand. I have come to hate it because it seems to like to get everywhere and dries into stuff like fricken cement!! I'd like to do rocks, mud (although it can dry on like cement too but not as bad), trails... nothing hardcore extreme. But not the easiest stuff there. I will be later on saving up to buy and making things like a winch, front locker of some kind, cage, bumpers and such then I will do harder stuff when I really equipped for it. I still want it to have decent road manors. I don't want to drive it to work. I drive 25-50 miles a day so that would be crazy. But I'd like to be able to drive it if I feel like it if I am going somewhere. But that's basically my want for what it can do...

As for garage... I have a single car garage that I couldn't park in if I had to save my life. It's dry, no heat. My driveway is too narrow to even get to it with my chimney in the way (I live in East Sac if you know the area you know how retarded the houses have their driveways in the older homes). I'm more then willing to help out as much as I can do so and return the favor back if I can do so. At the very least I can always hand stuff to ya!

Wes:

The shock hoop, you actually weren't the first to PM me. But maybe if you hook my good friend Lara up with a 60 we can work a deal... LOL /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Zakk:

Here's what the axles came with-
Dana 60 front
4.56 open
35 spline big inner shafts
New Spice 35 spline outer shafts
New 35 spline Spicer drive flanges
New axle joints
New 1410 spicer yoke with u bolts
Fresh kingpin seals and plastic bushings
All seals in good shape
1.25 od .313 wall DOM tie rod with New 1 Ton tie rod ends
New 2.5x8 Hydro Cylinder installed on axle/tie rod
Brakes ground to clear 15 inch wheel with 3.5 bs

14 Bolt rear
4.56 detroit
New 1410 Spicer yoke with u bolts
TSM disk brakes with caddy calipers with ebrake

I really don't want to buy cross over steering if I can use the hydro I have.... if I have it I wanna use it. It's on there so how hard would it be?

I dunno what else I can think of here..... ? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: I\'m tired of having no plan and being basically clueless....

I think that for mild off road and not flexing it too much, with the hydro setup you should be OK but plan on adding the cross over once you have a roll cage, winch and other stuff that will make you want to go on rocks like the Rubicon Gatekeeper, this is where you will find out that steering will be limited or erratic.
As for lockers, for now you should be fine without one in the front.

Re: I\'m tired of having no plan and being basically clueless....

i would sell the hydro. a 2.5" ram is waaaaaay too big for the street. Russ (BadDog) has a 2" ram on his "Truggy" and it is too slow for him on the trail. a 1.5" ram would be ideal for the street. And with the 38.5" tires, as soon as you get crossed up in anything, it will get interesting. Like you said yourself, your not going 1-ton to look at it. I went 1-ton for the same reason. Now i go through stuff just to see if i can. In Lopez Canyon, if i had not had x-over, i wouldn't have made it, no question about that.

Re: I\'m tired of having no plan and being basically clueless....

I think that's what I will do, sell it. Then go with crossover. It seems it will allow me have the best on and off road manors and allow for steering to be easiest. I might be emailing you Zakk and bugging you for some tech help... would that be cool? /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
