A few years ago someone I knew repainted a truck with IH red paint from the farm store. It looked amazingly good and he had hardly any cost compared to automotive paint. He said the secret was to thin with automotive enamel reducer. I'm not proposing using it on the exterior body panels like he did, but I did wonder about it for bumpers, or my inner fenders, things that get kind of beat up. Anyone tried enamel reducer in tractor paint?

I've used implement paint on lots of things. The axles under my K5, the floor pans/roll cage in my Camaro, the roll bar in my K5, under the hood of one of my other Camaros, lots of brackets and misc. parts. It's been holding up great. I use lacquer thinner to reduce it. I have no idea of the ratio I use. I just thin it till it looks like it will go through my gun.

If you use an enamel paint, I think you need to reduce it with mineral spirits. I could be wrong though. It might not even matter if you use an automotive grade reducer. In fact, the one made (or marketed) by the company making the paint would probably be the best.

Thanks. I picked up a quart of black last night and on the side of the can it said to reduce with either acetone or mineral spirits, so I am going with the acetone on the premise it will dry faster. Hope it turns out OK.
