Improving Low End Torque and Overall Power to my '79 Blazer?

Wow, that is the first time I have ever heard that. :haha:

I think I am getting that COMPCam Xtremem 4x4 Cam, I called up comp cams today and that is what they reccomended, they said get the 250 because its mainly for towing and mudding, and I need the power at low rpms.

I am ordering the cam in a week when I get paid next week, now I need to decided on some good headers. I dont want to spend more than like 150ish, can I get some nice ones for that price? I am seeing alot of ones on ebay, but it you get what you pay for with those right?

You already have it off, it's the better idea in my opinion to do it,,,why not replace something if you don't know the mileage of the part, and take a chance on it failing in the not too distant future, and having to do it all over again,,,over a few $$$

trust me,,,,replace it, peace of mind:wink1:

good cheap headers is an oxymoron... I'll never run cheapies again...

Heck, I may go Stainless on my next set... If not, at least some coated Thorleys or Hookers...

Yeah, I saw hooker on summit and wasnt sure if they were a good brand or not.

How 'bout these?

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=HOK%2D2453HKR&view=1&N=700+150+4294908216+4294908215+4294925054+4294840140+4294918680+400390+4294907043+

They seem relativley easy to install, or am I wrong?

I had very similiar Hooker Headers on my F*rd, and I loved em. Headers are an easy job, the only problem I had on my K-5 involved removing my smog pump and those anoying lines that went into my stock manifolds. Other than that easy install. Just after there on and snug, get them up to temp for a while and re-snug them. And then after a week or a 100 miles or so, re check them again. That with good high quaility gaskets with help to seal them suckers up. Now for my opinion on your timing chain, get rid of it, spend the bucks and get a gear driven timing set. No chain to break, just my 2c

Well I am on a bit of a bidget, the less money I have to spend the better. Should I do headers and exhaust first or do the cam first?

What's a "bidget"? :p:

do the exhaust work first, see if you like that, then go from there, is easier

Hmm. Thanks, I meant to say budget, I have to type quick cause I am at work and we are not allowed on the internet anymore hahah.

I think I will do exhaust first, see if I like the power gains, then go from there.

What kind of improvement will I see with a 3" exhaust?

do the exhaust first so you can tune everything else to the free flowing of it all as you go. And hell its gotta sound good, V-8's wearn't made to be quite, and a loud exhaust system is usually the first thing I do. Though maybe too loud for your tastes, I have always loved Cherry Bomb glasspacks to compliment headers. Cheap, loud, high flowing, and last a reasonable long time. My truck is in the process of getting an H-pipe, cherry bombs, and turn downs, to go with my black-jack headers.

Hmmm. I was lookign at a flowmaster 40 series, should I go with the cherry bomb? What sounds more argressive?

I can be kind of a brand whore, but I always go flowmaster. I have always liked how they sound. I may try a magnaflow one of these days though

If you plan on having cats I would go cherry bomb, cause cats cut out a lot of that good powerfull tone. If not, I'D still go with the cherry bombs, but you might prefer the Flowmaster 2 chamber (40 series) sound. Timeless muscle and still pretty loud. Glasspacks are rarely legal if you are worried about passing inspection also

I am thinking a 3" magnaflow cat with a flowmaster 40 series 3 in/out muffler? Will that sound pretty loud and agressive?

That should sound deep and agressive and still have reasonable volume

Is the Flowmaster Super 44 or the Flowmaster original 40 series betteR?

I called this little muffler shop that my friend got his 3" exhaust done at, they quoted me 100 for the labor and piping!! Thats a hella good deal. . if they do it right.

i got a single 3 inch exhaust on my truck headers and a flowmaster sounds amazing(well i think so anyway)

Can I keep my stock headers and do those in 3 weeks when I get paid again, and just do my exhaust, cat, and muffler now? or do I NEED to start with headers?
