did they ever install power inverters in the K5's?, did they even have power inverters back then?
the reason i ask is cause i have a plug in inside my jimmy, it's mounted in the back left corner between the tailgate and wheel well.
it blends in so well i never noticed it for the longest time, or maybe i don't pay much attention. I meant to plug something in or take the cover off and see whats behind it. but forgot about it all summer, and now the trucks sitting parked for the winter.
any ideas?

My dad used to wire a 110v outlet to 12v power in his trucks and mount it under the dash. He had built his own spotlight and wired a 2 prong plug onto it. Don't ask me why he did it like that, I guess he figured cigarette lighters were for cigarettes. You should probably put a meter on it and see what kind of current you have.

Everything was cool with Dad's setup, til my Uncle plugged the spotlight in at the house.:doah:

i plan on looking at it when i'm near the truck, just won't be for a while.
just curious if anyone had heard of that before.

oh and the 12V light thing, i learned about them when i was about 12 or 13, went threw a pack of 3 bulbs till i decided to just leave it alone and get a different light, dad was pissed!!:D

You used to be able to buy a thing that at the flip of a switch would bypass the regulator and rectifier in your alternator and give you somewhere in the ballpark of 100vac. That would let you run grinders or drills or trouble lights out in the field. I wouldn't plug your laptop in to it though. Those things have been around for ever, at least since the 70's. I don't know if they ever came factory installed though. Back in the day you could get them from JC Whitney, Napa, etc. Haven't seen one in years but you might still be able to get them.
