I am getting ready to buy a dash pad for my 83 . I have bid on E-pay 4 or 5 times for 2 that are on there . One went for over 600 dollars and the other never reaches reserve . That one has been as high as 500 dollars . I want a blue pad . I have heard the urethane ones suck big time . I have seen some with one company for over 300 . I don't have problem with that amount if it's good .So which company has the best and in the blue color . Thnaks

The junkyard, here atleast. I always seem to find good dash pads in the junkyard here, 73-80's, 81-87's, green ones, blue ones, red ones, and usually they only want $5-10 for them.

I got the one for my 86 for free, a friend bought a cab for a truck he's building but the cab is an 84, and the truck he's building is a 76, so the dash has to change, so he just gave me an almost perfect black 84 dash pad.

Dang Griff, you could make some pretty good coin flipping those dash pads, all the ones down here are trashed.

I was at the local junkyard here last week, and there was a 73 C10 Suburban that was pretty well shot, but it did have an almost perfect brown dash pad, I was going to grab it for my friends truck, but I didn't have right funky sized socket to get the screws out of the bottom of it. So I came back two days later and the roof had been crushed in to the point I couldn't get in it.

If you guys want I could go grab a few of them, I can think of alteast 6 good ones, and even more ones that have one or two little cracks. Its about 50-50 73-80 and 81-87.

If you're dead set on an OEM replacement, I understand. But...

I'm building a 'pretty' truck and I rolled the dice on a Coverlay dash based on positive reviews on here. Spent some time trimming old dash and some more fitting the Coverlay. Came out great. Best thing is, it still has the OEM skeleton so it fits like factory. I had heard the reproduction ones didn't fit well and didn't have the metal factory tabs. Just an option for you; by the way, they're less than $100 from rockauto.

Thanks. For anyone who decides to do it, here are a couple of my notes:

1. Coverlay says you don't have to remove the dash, but it's easy and I did because I had a lot of trimming to do. Also, the trash from trimming will go down in the dash and nobody wants that.

2. The color was pretty close, but I sprayed it with SEM Color Coat since I was re-dyeing my interior anyway so everything matches.

3. trim access holes to get to the 3 or 4 screws above the glove box and the one in the passenger door jamb. That way, the dash is still removable. If you just glue it in in the truck, you'll cover these screws.
