Inline 6s in K-5s

[ QUOTE ]
The Ford 6 is a good motor in my opinion. Beat it forever then some more.

True dat. We have a 62 F*rd flatbed 1 ton and it still runs (has some oil problems right now but hell, it still runs)

Here is an inline 6 in a 74 4x4 Chev that I used to have ... 'course it is a 6BB1 inline 6 DIESEL out of a 24' box truck... It was mated to a stock SM465.
Now if you want torque down low, this is the swap you need!

ALright call me an inline motor nut but i gotta know. Did k-5s come whith 292 inline 6s. And if so do you think anny of em are left?

[/ QUOTE ] I have a77 /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif it came with a 250 6 cyl no power steering,no air does have power brakes.I went to a 350 now I dont go from 75 to 35 up hill any more.Out side of that It did real well climbing around the rocks and hills. Also it came stock with 4:11s. mike m /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

cool. That's my "dream truck"...1970 K5 with a 292 I6 (I've already got the stock 292 in my '70 stepside)

Buy Leo Santucci's book "Chevrolet Inline Six-Cylinder Power Manuel"..it's REALLY helpful.

Pretty much you can take a 292, bore it .30 over (to 296), add dome top pistons, cam, and 4 barrel intake with 450cfm carb and be pulling about 343 hp! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
offers advantages of loads of torque without weighing as much as bigger motors. One of the disadvantages is that "hop-up" parts can cost more because not alot of folks do it anymore...they just yank it out and put a small block in.

People that knock I6's don't really know what they're talking about in my opinion.

also check out www.inliners.org there is a message board over there and helpful articles.

theyve used 4 different chassis/engines over the years and they all look exactly the same (bodywise)
Freightliner
Ford
International
Chevy

I almost bought a K5 with a straight six. In fact, I think my first posts under my other username were about that.

I have a '74 One Ton two wheel drive truck, and it has a 292cid, In-Line Six, great motor getts around 20mpg, and lots of torque, had it put on a dynometer about 8 months ago, did 280ft-lbs@ 1560rpm of turque, kind of sad as far as horsepower goes, 89hp@ 3300rpm. Also vary slow, I have tried to gett it up to 100mph because that is what the speedometer says is max, but the highest I ever gott it was about 70mph and that was vary, vary hard to do. As far as the block goes, I have tried in the past to put power steering on it, but it does not even have holes in the block for the brackets one belt onder the hood and it is for the generator.
