My fresh TBI crate engine with only 15,000 miles on it can go over 5000 RPM if I wanted it too. If I jump on on the throttle a little I can get the engine to go to almost 3000 RPM before it will shift. Right as it is going to shift I back out the throttle, and the trans shifts then the engine drops down to about 2600 RPM. Then I jump on it a little again up to close to 3000 RPM, and as it is about to shift I back off it. Then it shifts, and engine RPM drops back down to about 2600 RPM. That is in the 1 to 2 to 3rd shifts if I want the truck to get up to speed limit in a reasonable amount of time. As my truck is cruising at 45 to 55 MPH the RPM on surface streets is about 2200 to 2600. Over Drive at about 70 MPH on the Interstate is the same RPM. My truck has a 4L80E trans.
I got the thing fixed. The electrical problem was not from the dual battery install it was from the competition motor mount install. When I lifted the engine to install the mounts the engine came in contact with my coil and screwed some wires up. I have the coil custom mounted to the firewall because of some modifications to the TBI.
