insulation under hood needed?

I took mine off of my 79 too then traded out for a truck hood. The truck hood (off an earlier pick-up) had supports so it won't bend like the nice one they had on my Blazer initially! Don't see any problems due to the earlier hoods didn't have them at all....I think!

Thanks, Shane

I plan to take mine out soon. It was all nice and pretty in there until I ran a mud bog competition back in March. Now it sags a lot from all the mud and stuff in it. I doubt it will make much of a difference to my truck. Afterall, it is black and I live in Texas. Guess I could park it in the garage. Anyone have a garage with a 10' door I could use for, oh, say, a summer?!?

So what is the insulation really for? My guess is it's to insulate sound coming from the engine compartment. Just guessing. Anybody really know why the OEM's put that stuff there?????

Question for you on the X-stream lid... Did you notice ANY difference in performance with that filter lid?? I kinda understand the theory on it, but was wondering if it made a difference for $70.00

ps: my insulation is old/dirty and I could use a new one
Thanks..................

I have noticed a huge difference. I got lucky, when the new auto parts store opened, they used temps. to set up the store and had the x-treme top marked on the shelf for $23.99, I had been thinking about it and at that price couldn't resist. P.S. I've got it on top of a 4-bbl holley truck avenger. it realy deepens the tone on the truck sound.

well, i thought the xstream lid made a difference when i had it on... it was a couple months ago that i last had it on though and i've been in the middle of other projects... not sure if i'd say it was worth 60-70, but i guess every little bit you add for performance does add up...
a few months ago i figured that i'd just get it when i bought the k&n filter or i prob never would have gotten around fitting it in my budget. now, i just dont want to waste the money, its been sitting in the box in my closet for 3 months.....which is why i asked about the insulation... hopefully i'll have time to take the insulation out this weekend and throw it on and i'll let you know

I know its not the same car, but I put one on my '81 trans am, I had the shaker opened up and the snorkel welded shut. But I really notice a hp increase with the x-stream, it was well worth the $70. go for it.

hey, i took out the insulation and put the xstream top on...i think it did make a difference in performance but i'm not sure it made as much as it should have, i think i might just have some other problems i might need to look into that are unrelated to the filter and insulation.
