this is what i have learned...
Whenever I go to the insurance company or the registry of motor vehicles, this is what I do:
1.Speak only when spoken too.
2.When asked questions,be careful how you answer, and NEVER give more info than they need to know!..(they didn't need to know my 72 Chevelle wagon was converted to 4wd by putting it on a suburban chassis, for instance)
3.Dont drive the vehicle in question there--borrow another vehicle if nessasary..(my friend drove his lifted 4x4 with "switched" cab numbers on it to the RMV--the cop there took his plates and had it towed, and made sure it never was registered again--he had to scrap it,it would have cost so much to make it "legal",even though it was not stolen,he had just put a nice rust free cab on it,but used his original tags)
4.DONT go to the grouchy looking PMS witch at the RMV if at all possible(Usually, they are ALL PMS witches there, and they cant wait to shoot you down, and make you get things notarized,or cause untold other greif, like making you apply for a new title when they make you sign it in the wrong spot,or some other PITA thing--they LOVE it when you turn beet red,and want to kill them!--ever notice a cop is always there??).
5.Pray if you ever DO have an accident, you dont live to face the charges!
6.Once its on the road, drive it like your grandmother, and you wont have many problems...
good luck!----I have to go to swap plates in the near future,I have learned not to go to the RMV without at least a hundred bucks on you,it seems like a scanner "reads" your wallet when you walk in,and automatically knows how much to charge you, your lucky to have enough for a coffe when you leave--
