interesting read on a clasic ford 84 show truck

Cool truck. Cool story behind it. I could never own anything like that. The urge to drive it would be to great.

The lift blocks on the front of that otherwise beautiful truck scares the crap outta me. I guess it's safe to have it that way since he doesn't drive it, but damn, do it right or don't do it at all.

man that thing is nice, the front tires seem like they are leaned in at the top though.

I'd say the urge to try and keep it like that would be too great.

Trying to keep it in the pristine condition would be too stressful for me. I'd have to remove anything and everything in the shop surrounding it so nothing would fall against it, etc. And "roping" off a bay to keep the kids and others away from it, too. Just too much to handle.

blocks and 10.5:1
eek
o yeah, and that bed is getting scratched the second I have it, somehow, with my key or something ugg
nice sample of an original ford otherwise

Call me a cynic, but I don't believe 10% of that story that goes with the truck. It is nice, but my opinion is that although ordered with a strange option combo it's not factory.

I'd want to see some documentation on the build. If it truly was built that way there'd be a paper trail to go with it.

That my friend is the notorious Ford TTB, or Twin Traction Beam front axle. Every 80-96 Ford owner has cussed that design at least once in their life, myself included. I had an 86 F-250 4x4 with a Dana 50 TTB and it was hard to keep it aligned and the steering wandered like hell.

Take a closer look at the GVWR sticker. Look real close at the edges. Looks like it was masked off for paint of some sort. If it was never touched up, repainted, etc., the lines of the sticker would be much more straight and crisp.

I agree. Also, the story on the 1970 460 that was installed while on the assembly line? With a comp cam? And headers?

D50 TTB's did have a leaning tire problem, but you never saw it at 5400 miles. If this truly had just 5400 miles and this truck was a "true time capsule" those tires would be dead straight.

It's a great build, but that's what I believe it to be is a build.

Is it true to what the story tells, I don't know. What I do know is yes it could have been built that way if he worked at the plant that made the truck. In all my years of attending shows I have seen some varified combos that just should not exist. Sometimes it's all in who you know.

If I was a betting man (thats a hell of a spread! :D), I'd say the builder probably rolled the odometer back to 000000 to start the trucks life back over as a "new" one.

I would wonder if it were so perfect, would you put a load of any type in the bed? Seems like you wouldn't want to do that either. :dunno:

Definitely clean. Clean enough it would do me no good.

Twin I-beam Dana 50... silly suspension concept.

Not silly.... HORRIBLE! I had a full size Bronco with Twin Traction Beam and IT SUCKED! I cannot count the number of ways it SUCKED! I invested a ton of time and money to make improvements, and in the end, it STILL sucked.

Never been so glad to get rid of a vehicle in my life. Thats not Ford bashing.. its TTB bashing!

If I'm not mistaken, that's a Dana 60 rear end, but by 1984 Ford was using the Sterling 10.25 rear axle.

I'm not much of a Ford truck guy myself but it sure does look nice.

I wonder if chevy built any custom show trucks like this. Would have been cool if they had this as an option for the trucks back then.

GM just doesn't build trucks like the use to any more. Hope GM gets turned around. Even the parts for our old classics are being made in mexico now. This needs to be brought back to the US.

What if GM offered a limited run of the previous trucks from the 70's-80's? And they build them the way they should be built with quaility US parts. They could sell these at a premium. I think there would be enough buyers. Bring back the 60's vettes and other classics for limited factory production run also.

Yep, agreed. Not the brightest bunch of engineers Ford had at that time.

We have a '90 F250 4x4 at work we use for plowing and hauling since it has a flatbed and this thing is underpowered and undergeared, badly. 351 and 3.54 gears, you do the math.

This same truck has been in the alignment shop 3 times already in the past 10 years. The worst I measured the front camber was like 3" difference measured at the 12:00 position on the bead of the rim compared to the 6:00 position. :eek1::eek1::eek1: Can you say "eating tires"?
