Interesting...that's all...

It says my '85 Burb "low retail" is $1990 ....after "deducting" 20% for being a diesel......it'll be lucky to bring less than half that if I went to sell it..:doah:

well...as we know...things are only worth what somebody is willing to pay for them....but this is what my bank went by when they made the loan when I first bought the Blazer. Although I actually ended up with a signature loan.

These are the prices I am seeing them go for on the auctions and is what Haggerty will insure them for if they are restored mostly stock.

Everything depreciates..... Except maybe V12 Ferraris.

(I really need to start collecting those.....). :D

Actually thats twice what I thought it'd be worth!...(the RMV will think its worth all of that if I go to register it when it comes to sales tax though..:doah:..)

I guess the 6.2 diesel option is a "minus" ,not a plus, according to the value guide !--you "deduct" 20% for it being diesel...another "penalty" for owning one.....and I thought they were "desireable" and rare, and sought after...guess not!.

according to the NADA the trend in value is upward on these older K5's though

That value trending up will probably continue as the industry gravitates away from body-on-frame SUVs and so many of the classic trucks succumb to the ravages of time and rust.

So the 1973 hunk of poo (for now) sitting in my driveway that I paid $125 + $150 for tune up and oil/fluid changes that I have more time into just cleaning out and up is worth $3000.

He'll that bets the stock market for returns......

Wonder what it will be worth when I throw real money and bodywork at it.

Low Retail Value
This vehicle would be in mechanically functional condition, needing only minor reconditioning. The exterior paint, trim and interior would show normal wear, needing only minor reconditioning. May also be a deteriorated restoration or a very poor amateur restoration. Most usable ‘as-is’.

This value does not represent a ‘parts car’.

It's not a parts car. It is as described. I bought it from a friend who didn't know what he had that was only into Toyota 4runners. I put in a new tranny and t case and it is a perfectly operational rig. Original tired (very tired) paint. Same color as yours. I am technically the second owner ever as he never even transfered the title to himself and only had it for two months.

I only call it a hunk of poo cause I haven't done my magic yet.:D

Besides price don't matter as you know chief, as mine like your will probably never leave the family.

that's true...but it helps to be able to insure them for higher amounts. Haggerty had a $12000 cap on mine until just recently they were willing to go up to $15,000. The NADA value should make them take it up to $18,000. which would be approaching what is accurately in it.

With Haggerty, they insure you and pay you the agreed amount no questions asked...not "replacement" value but whatever value you agreed upon.

Does this change what the average price of a fixer-upper 1973 Blazer sells for...ehhh...maybe...there was a time when the Edsel was a dime a dozen...suddenly the values began to rise.

If your 1973 runs and isn't eat up it should bring $3000 - $4000

We have a couple of things we have had to insure like that.but in the plane and boat market they use diffrent avenues. My wife used the nada book all the time when they used to do car auctions.

Just redid the insurance for the 47, 50,& 51 Chevy trucks. Our insurance lady goes off our estimated value as I am sure nada value also. Problem is one of the planes and truck are in build so they go from completion % as well as completed market value. I don't do the math nor pay the bill so at some point I generally quit listening.

They list three values in the Mass RMV computers. They are all based on NADA. I have had the woman show me the screen. I'm sure thats a major mess up on her part, because I have to use that info against them every time I go in now. The people behind the counter always seem pissed that I know they are using the high value.

I forget what I bought a few years back that they wanted to tax me for a $7500 car and I had just paid $1000. Who knew taxes were negotiable

I didnt, thats for sure, and I had a friends sister who was a "higher up" RMV employee that helped me out a few times when I had title problems,etc..(she's retired now,unfortunately)...I know you could "file for an abatement" and I did a few times, but nothing ever came of it--once you have paid the tax on full value, good luck getting a penny back from the RMV or state...your abatement form most likely goes directly into the "round file"when you apply for a rebate..

I'll have to remember what you stated if I go to register my other truck someday..I got zinged at the RMV several times, having to pay sales tax on the "mint" condition full value, when I'd bought a dead vehicle with a blown engine or transmission,or was a rotbox...like the '82 GMC Cabbalaro I bought for 500 bucks with a dying 229 V6 in it--got it for 500 bucks, but they made me pay tax on its 2000 dollar "book value" and I never heard boo after I filed for an abatement..that was just one of several times I got bent over that way..

Once my friends sister was able to reduce the tax to "minimum" somehow--later on I heard it's now legal to "gift" someone a vehicle and they'll only have to pay a "minimum sales tax"..it used to be only certain relatives could use the "gift" status...I'm not so sure this is legit, because I'm sure everyone would be "gifting" cars instead of selling them,in order to cheat the tax man!..if it is true,I'm going to ask the former owner I got my Burb from to write a note saying he "gifted" it to me!..pretty sure he would ..
