Interior swap from 1991 Suburban into 86 crew cab, does everything swap???

Cost to cover a bench seat locally was $150 10 years ago here. Probably much more now. That was including whatever material the shop had on hand.

To match the fabric on those front buckets will require nos factory material to be ordered. Last time I did that, the material was something like $300 a yard. Add that to the regular cost.

Quite possibly cheaper to buy a different donor.

As to swapping in the suburban rear seat...

The floor structure is completely different. Not saying it's not possible, but I don't think it would work well at all. Even if you cut out the floor and ditched the saddle tanks, just look for pics of a burb with the rear section of the roof cut off. There is like half an extended cab area behind the back door on the ones that get closed back in. If you put the seat in a crew, I don't think the back seat passengers would have much leg room.

If you ditched the brackets under the seat bottom and just set the seats in there, I think the seat would also be much higher tahn the correct one. Kind of like theater seating...but not enough head or leg room for an adult.

Maybe small kids would think it was cool...

I thought abut the upholstery shop route but, I bet it would cost almost as much to do the custom rear seat as I would have in the donor 'Burb itself!

Yeah, the more I have looked at the shape of a 'Burb rear seat, the less I like the idea of swapping it into the crew cab.

Now I am contemplating just putting the crew cab's drivetrain (383, sm465, np205, D60, 14BFF) into the 'Burb, since the 'Burb seems to have a much better body. (haven't gotten a chance to see it in person yet (to see if it truly is worth buying as a donor))

Kinda derailing my own thread, DOH! It would be pretty cool though!

Better body + TBI + perfect interior = pretty nice rig. :thumb:

Indeed it would be!!!

Well, now I am going to completely derail my own thread- looks like I may end up going a different route altogether, my dad is now really liking the looks of a K5 so, may just scavenge my K30 for us to build a shared project K5. Should be cool, I don't think he's ever had a 4x4. He's a Chevy guy through and through though, all he's driven in my lifetime is GM vehicles and he just retired from GM last year. He was initially thinking of buying an old Corvette but here lately is leaning toward a K5! Now we just have to find one!

If you're looking for a truck with a roof, why not just keep the Suburban? It's not radically different from a K5 (probably more practical), and it seems to be in nice enough shape. :dunno:

I agree on those points but, he wants a smaller vehicle, that way it can easily fit in the garage, and wants an open top for going to the beach.
Oh, and I don't own the Suburban, I was just seriously contemplating buying it (and wanted to get info to see if it was a good route to go), I only own the K30.

Gotcha. Sounds like a plan! :waytogo:
