One of my buddies was talking about adding an internal AND external cage to his rig.... any thoughts on this?

Why?
dose he plan on going off the top of a moutain?
I would say do an internall cage, and if he wants the looks the make external body armor.

other than that stick to one Good cage. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

The only way I would consider mixing the two is if the external tubing was basically in the form of armor. Bumpers, sliders and things of this nature.

I did something like this. I have a full internal cage with an outside lower armor system. I like it. It alows you to take lines you could not before. You can alos be sloppy in the design as the outside armor is not your personal protection. The internal cage is. My rig sits at about 5,100 pounds loaded for the trail.

Thats pretty light for such a big truck. Whats your secret?

See the Center of Gravity forum for sandman's secrets.

On the internal/external cage thing. Make sure he makes it out of pipe so it can double the weight of his rig.

I skinned out the front and cut the roof off. That was good for over 400 pounds! Removed all carpet and liners and pulled out the AC stuff. Fuel cell and racing seats help out also. There is a whole thread about it in the Center of Gravity Forum. Dumping the weight made a huge difference. The doors themselves were 76 pounds each.

I still have ideas on it. I sorta crunched my windsheild on upper so it will get replaced with a lexan one and AL for the raidator and a few other things.

Its like a weight loss program... the first few pounds come off quick and then after that it gets harder and harder! Nice truck man. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

It also gets more expensive. I think I'm about at that wall now and still have a mostly full bodied rig. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Apparently someone changed it, it was his truck earlier.
