any experts on here? found some info on here that makes me want to consider one for the burbs diesel swap.

wondering if the bellhousing is similar to cummins as far as what tranny will bolt to it, or is it a medium duty.

rumors that need verified

that it is stouter than the 5.9

will support 2000hp

came with a p pump, m pump, and a pump. what are the differences, which one is better for power and mileage.

what trannys came behind it. so far i know the allison 545 auto did

any body done this swap in a chev before?

i hear it is heavier than the cummins, but what does it weight. cummins is 1100 lbs.

i will add to this as i think of more questions.

I know a mechanic that works on them.
They are good engines but 2000hp? Not really.
They are 1300lbs.
I believe they are SAE 3 bellhousing.
Allison 545 was the most common.

is this something you could get 400 hp out of pretty easy?

turning up the fuel on dt motors; http://www.freewebs.com/nevrenufhp/

fuel pump mods on a dt466 vid grossing 27000lbs 0-56mph, pretty impressive.; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sbw7J3zXA4E&feature=user

dt360 2"longer than the 6bt cummins approx same height,

Your wasting your time there nearly the same Physical size and weight as a DT466 but with out the displacement

are you saying the dt motors are a waste of time or the 360 is? with all the reading i did last night it seems like the dt would be a really good motor.

i'll have to start looking for dimensions, i was under the impression that using a dt466 vs a dt360 meant hacking into the firewall a bunch and a bodilift.

alright got some interweb dimensions

international resource:

http://www.binderplanet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58496

the dt 466

length = 45"
width = 29.3"
height = 40.8"
wieght = 1275lbs (i assume this is without the accessories)

the dt360

length = 44.03
width = 28.8
height = 35.6
weight =

cummins resource: http://thedieselgarage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38264

the 6btcummins

length = 40.02"
width = 32.44"
height = 35.52"
weight = 942 (again assuming this is without accesories)

i can see what you guys mean by a waste of time dimensionally.

automatic tranny info.

http://www.skoolie.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1824

allison at545 non lockup, sae 3 housing, 30k gvwr, no od, most common

allison mt643 locked up 3rd and 4th, sae 2 housing, 73k gvwr, has od of 0.78

allison mt653 locked up 3rd, 4th, and 5th, sae 2 housing, od

allison md3060, 6 speed, double od, 0.65 od, sae 2 housing, requires tps and temp sensor, expensive tranny and parts, really big. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=782944

the sae 2 housing is the same pattern cummins tranny's use. this is a thread about installing a fuller onto the 5.9l, fso6406a, 6 speed with od comparable to nv5600. also has info about other trannys that will fit. http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/98-5-02-powertrain/41978-nv5600-fso6406a-6-speed-fuller.html

thread about installing 13 speed into dodge dually http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=912565&highlight=transmission+swap

I read that thread about the 13-speed:screwy: I think he wants to be a super trucker! :D

I dont quite understand the thought process of putting heavy and medium duty truck components in a Pickup,

You dont gain anything really , Infact you lose cuz you dont have the larger brakes and heavier frame and suspension components .

I guess its cool from a Gee-whiz point of view but its not practical

yeah, i agree. only way i would use one in a suburban is if i found one cheaper than i could find an nv4500.

i think if you are routinely pulling 25k+ you should have a medium duty anyways. especially here in colorado or any where else with hills.

Yep, I'm not saying I haven't pulled really heavy with my 2005 Ram and Gooseneck but it definitely wasn't smart our legal.

I had the same thoughts as you when I heard about the DT360 until I found out its dimensions. its weird that its so frigging huge for the small displacement

So I stopped by the salvage yard today to see if they had any dt motors for sale. They said they had just pulled a dt466 and ally combo out of a bus they crushed. They wanted $800 for the combo. So I went and looked at it. Took some measurements to confirm and then paid $600 for my new to me fleet maintained dt466that bears a striking resemblence to a first gen cummins
