Introductions & Greetings

Hey there

Well i am new to the 4X4 scene. I did some mini trucking for awhile but those only really have one purpose. Show off. I wanted something i can have fun with and still haul with. I am about to purchase a 84' K5 blazer with a 3" lift and 33's. I am very excited to get my new toy. It will make a great christmas present to myself. I have some questions about good stereo equipment. I know what subs and amp im going to use along with receiver but i wanted to know what size speakers fit in factory locations. Also is it just the speakers up front on the dash or are there door speakers? just some questions. I hope this forum helps me as much as my other forum for my car does.

Happy Wheeling

Hi Im Jason.Im 33 and I live outside of Nashville in Fairview. I really like the site and all the extremely helpful information it provides. This is definitly gonna help me with my chevy crawler build!! Thanks.......

I am a new owner of a 78 K5. I am in the mist of a total drive train retrofit. New chevy 350, sm465-205, 8 lug Dana 44, GM 14bolt converted to disc brakes, new hooker dual exhaust, rough country 4" suspension lift, 35" cooper AT3 tires. Going to use a swing pedal assembly out of a 79 K20 which I have completely rebuilt repairing all worn linkage holes and installed new bushings with fresh paint.

I am a former member of the Sierra Treasure Hunters 4WD club based out of Sacramento, CA. Spent alot of time on the RubiconTrail, Fordyce Trail (Sierra Trek), Barret Lake Trial, and many others. I do rebuilds of all types of differentials, manual transmissions, transfercases, and custom motor work.

I am currently looking to find the rubber boot assembly for the floor board where the clutch rod passes through. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hello my name is Andrew I live in salt.lake city Utah I have a 1989 k5 blazer on bfg 35 wich by the way were damn expensive worth more than what I bought the truck for. Anyways the truck is solid and looking forward to restoring it.

Hello Andrew,
I don't know alot about the 89 vintage blazers but will try and answer any questions you may have. Is the machine a aoutomatic or manual trans? It is probably equipped with a GM 10 bolt in the front and a GM 12 bolt in the rear and the transfer case would be a 208 New Process. Ofcourse, this could be diffrent if someone has modified previous to you obtaining the vehicle. Are there smog laws in Utah? If not, the sky is the limit as far as performance equipment related to the motor.

Let me know if I can help.

Welcome and sorry to hear you need to sell your rig. I think you'll have better success posting it in the classifieds section. Pictures are a huge help. Also, check your PM. Best of luck.

debating on buying '79 Blazer

Hey there,
I've got the opportunity to get my hands on a '79 with a 383 stroker motor and built trans. Automatic and 4x4... I know there is some body rust, I'm going to look at it tomorrow (fri) morning.

Just curious if you guys have any thing specific that I should look for in this truck. It seems like quite a deal at $2500 bucks and I'm excited to see it tomorrow. Just wanted to know what I should look out for...

Thanks guys.

As far as rust goes, check the rockers, quarters and under the carpet. Doors and fenders are an easy fix. Remember, whatever rust you see is probably a fraction of what is there.

I'm a hardcore Chevy guy!

I'd better introduce myself(finally). Name's Nick and I've been into wheelin' since the late '90s. Had a '75 CK10 since 1996 and it now sits(more than it should) as it gets reworked, slowly. I've got too many hobbies and not enough time. It is something I want to do right though and I've had parts for years that I intend to use. I put together a doubler(with the 3 stick conversion), a 415ci SBC and a TH700R4. I bought an '87 one ton crew cab in '03 and gutted it. Kept the NP205 and the 14bolt and D60. I'm a big fan of Offroad Design and many of their parts can be found on my truck, including their hy-steer setup on my 60. The frame was bead blasted and powder coated 2 yrs ago and I've had the weld wheels and 38s just a little longer than that. Just sitting around are 35 spline 4340 axles with solid U-joints for the 60 and ARB air lockers just waiting to be bolted to 5.13 gear sets.

Well, it looks like I am not allowed to post pics, yet :(

So yeah, HI.....

Bitchin website. Built a 90 k5 for my 16 y.o. son. 3 inch suspension lift and 2 inch body. Problem is when turning right and then going straight, steering wheel is off center to the right. Can turn left and then straight and it will be back on center or to left of center. Scary! Cant let him drive it till I figure this out!

Does it turn better to the left? Sounds like you may need t raise/replace the steering arm to accommodate the lift. Try posting/searching in the Technical section.

Hey all,

My name is Jason and I recently acquired an 88 K5 Silverado on 35's that I traded my 70 Monte Carlo for. My daily drivers have always been Jeeps, so I'm excited to have a new challenge with lots to learn. Thanks in advance!

Another new guy

Hi im Mike I live in so-cal. My 1986 M1009 K5 is my DD, it has a 6.2 diesel, th400, np208, with 40K on the drive train. 10 bolts with 4.88s and lockers and a set of 39.5 Irok radials.:D im only 21 and love wheeling and working on my rig. havent had anyone to wheel with so anyone in So-cal id love to go wheeling.

IF anyone actually reads this, here is goes. I'm a returning "new" member to this board. Been wheeling for many, many, many, many moons. I'm a 4x4 whore, had chevy's, fords, dodges and jeeps. I presently have a 2000 F250 with 7" lift, 37's, engine mods, etc. I really wheel with my 1951 Jeep CJ3A. It's got a fuel injected 350, SM420, Dana 20 with terra low gears and twin sticks, front 60 with detroit and chromoly shafts, rear 14 bolt with disc brakes and a detroit. Both running 5.13 gears. I've been on the Ultimate Adventure in 2007 and met the Watson boys from Offroad Designs. Great guys and had a great time. Love four wheeling but I presently don't have a chevy platform wheeler. Does it count that the entire running gear except the transfercase is Chevy?

New guy/truck -- 90 3/4 ton 4wd Suburban

Hello folks, brand new on here and just wanted to make a quick post. On Halloween I just picked up a 90 3/4 ton 4WD Suburban that was in great shape. 280K+ on the body and about 60K+ on a crate 350, stock suspension, Flowmaster, K&N, headers, push bar, KC's, etc. etc. All the windows and locks were finicky at best, so the first thing I did was pull each of them apart and clean and lube those. They all work great now. A couple weeks ago I added a 4" Superlift (spring front, block rear), extended brake lines, new shocks all around, and a sway bar disconnect. Also replaced the front pads. Next addition. To hold me over until I got my tires and wheels, I pulled the stockers and painted them black just to give them a bit "tougher" look. Last week I picked up a set of 5 315/70/17 take-off BFG AT's from an H2, and then a day later found a set of 4 tires and wheels with about 80% tread so I got them too (meaning I now have 5 spares, ha). Anyway, the wheels go to the blaster Monday and then I'll Duplicolor them matte black. Bought a paint gun last week and am gonna try my hand at painting the whole vehicle once the weather starts cooperating. So that's about where it stands now. Lifted and still on stock tires and wheels for another week or so, but running great. I've put a few thousand miles on it with nothing but a couple of "routine" hiccups.

Sorry, tried to post pics but can't until after 5 posts apparently. Soon!
