Hey, so I'm actually a car guy at heart (I know, boo hiss and all that) but I needed a work truck so I recently purchased a 1988 Blazer and wound up liking the truck a great deal. I'm a total newbie to the entire 4x4 scene so any and all help with maintenance and modifications would be greatly appreciated.

Most of us are or have been car guys at one point. You're in good company.

Hi all! My name is Casie I live in Northern California and I just bought my first Chevy! 1980 K5 Blazer all stock with original front end!! I've only had it for a little over a week but every day I love it more and am so looking forward to many long hours working on making her mine :-)

Change of plans..... getting this one instead. I having it taken straight to the tranny shop for a full overhaul of the TH350C. This photo shows the ONLY cosmetic flaw to tge sheet metal. Front fender, and door skin, low. PDR will take care of that!

Being as this is my first 4x4 and being in California with my father in Mississippi I could use all the starter advice you are willing to share with me.. Any and all will be much appreciated. I have found online and from my fellow K5 fans that the front end of my 1980 k5 blazer was only manufactured for that year?? This is very exciting to me being as I have the complete unscathed front end on my beautiful K5! I have the manufacturers suggested tire size but they look small and my speedometer reeds 5 miles over the speed limit? Any thoughts on why and or what i can do to get an accurate reading??

Hello

Hello-

My name is Trey but my friends call me BigTrey. I recently purchased an 82' K5 for my 14 year old son. He will be 16 in about a 18 months and i wanted a project truck that we could work on together to teach him some things and learn to take pride in his work, like my father did with me.

My K5 has a bad transmission and that will get fixed in a little while but it also needs all the normal things. Truck was originally blue but is now white and will be Green at some point in the future. The newer 350 that is in it is an Edlebrock Crate that is currently putting out about 300 BHP. That was the only thing that the kid that owned it before me right. For example, the batter was held in by a tied in bikini top...well now that i think about it that had to be fun explaining why she needed to take her top off...

I have read and searched all over the internet for information and joined this site because i found that there is more accurate data here than any where else.

Welcome to the site Trey.

More accurate info and more experienced and helpful people also. :waytogo:

Father/son projects are cool. Kids learn a lot from that experience.

Welcome to CK5!

Hello

Hello,
My name is Shane. I have a 1982 K5 Blazer that I just got a few months ago. I've always liked the Chevy Blazers and Pickups. I used to own a 83 GMC 3/4 ton High Sierra 4x4 that I did a lot of modifications to. I loved that truck but I had to let her go a little over a year ago. So you could believe I was stoked to get my hands on my very first Blazer! It's a diamond in the rough, but shes on her way. I have a parts truck I've been robbing parts off of. So the body is coming together. I replaced the steering column, starter, carb, and fuel pump, so far. It runs and drives, it's a lot of fun. Hoping to get it up and running by this summer to go camping and boating! Long range goal is to make it a reliable daily driver that is trail ready and up for a mud bog or two!

I've turned to this site several times in the past to get some answers. I have found it to be a great site and I'm glad to finally be a part of it. Can't wait to get to know some of you, and share my project with you. Thanks for having me!

Intro

Hi all! So excited to be here. I have an 89 K5 that I use as my offroad rig. It has a 4" lift on 35" tires. Running Dana 44 front open/14 bolt rear welded with 4.10 gears. It has all disc brakes and full hydro steering. This weekend it is getting a roll cage, heavy bumpers, rock sliders, 12K winch, and 4 pt. harness. So excited and hoping to have everything ready for an offroad trip to SMORR at the end of April.

Howdy

Good evening all, my name is mike. im from sheboygan wi. i had a 1980 3/4 ton suburban in high school 20 years ago. i have been a mechanic all my life did time in the army eod as a bomb tech and mechanic. i have always loved the k5 blazer and april 1 i sold my 1994 dodge ram (no room for a car seat) and thought the coolest thing to replace it with is a k5. yesterday april 2 i bought a 1976 k5 cheyenne it has 350 engine (supposed to be 400 but will get into that later) with th350 trans and np203 t-case with gm factory 10 bolt axles with 3.73 gears 3" suspension lift with 35" tires and period correct 15" center line rims for $2000 solid floors and very little rust for my area. it is going to be my daily driver/ rolling project. i have said enough for now

thanks for having me

Hey guys, my name is David. I don't have a K5 yet, but i'm scouring the internet for a 70-72. I was going to go the new route and get a Rubicon unlimited, but figured this would be a great father/son project with my dad's health deteriorating. Looking forward to building and learning from you guys. :waytogo: Any of you guys jump into a project like this with very little fabricating experience? Pops has some great mechanical knowledge, but it looks like we better learn to weld real quick.

Hello, my name is Kevin. 2 years ago I finished a build of an 82 CJ7 just the way I wanted it. My family has since outgrown the jeep and I bought an 88 K5 last years to replace it. The work on the K5 has been slow but it does run and drive well, so no hurry right now. Excited to finish it and enjoy some family outings. Looking to do an LS swap later so will be looking for advise when that time comes.

New poster/ new K5 owner

Hows it going guy!!! New member here from Mooresville NC.
I just picked up a 85 Military 6.2 Diesel. I am stoked about her, she needs a little work but nothing I can't handle. The turbo 400 needs a rebuild and I will be having that done in a week or so. One of the first things I will also do is get a new 2nd row seat with shoulder belts. Seems with my research 2000+ tahoe or burb seats with the belts already on it will work with some mods. She has 123,xxx miles , has a nice lift with 35" tires. Still has all the black out hardware and 4 fog lights in front. I look forward to being here and learning.

Whats up yall? Names Jacob, and I'm from Lubbock, TX. I uuuh... dont have a rig yet, im stuck with my moms old 1998 cutlass. >.> buuuuut, I'm planning on gettin myself an 80's k5 here pretty soon, and the time just isnt going fast enough. always loved these old topless suvs. well thats about it for now! see yah on the forum!

K5 from CA

What a site!
Been sitting on my blazer for the most part of the last 10 years. Had trans. and carb issues and basically just parked it. Did a round of work on it about 3 years ago, and didn't quite get it done. Back at it again and am resolved to keep at it this time.

Runs and drives at this point. Need to address two issues before I can really stretch her legs out - seal the darn th350 and gets some exhaust under it! Then we can see what gives out on the trails. Work done between 3 years ago and now: clean fuel tank, repair fuel lines as needed, new fuel pump and filters, new edelbrock carb, new alternator, starter, lock and ignition inserts, power steering pump and lines, t.c. shifter from junkyard, new coolant hoses, heater core and hoses, spark plugs and wires.

Anyway, here is a good starting picture.

76 Blazer Cheyenne. 400, TH350 and NP203. Bought by step-gpa new, went to my step-dad at some point and then to me as a graduation present.
