Introductions & Greetings

Hi Gary, Welcome.

There few pop up camper guys here. They are hard to find. Put a post in the classifieds. @ZooMad75 might have a line on k5 with pop up. iirc the seller wants a lot of money.

Hi my name is Gary, I am looking for a square body blazer with "4-wheel" pop-up camper. I have an 85 blazer, lots of rust, so needing new square bodied rig. Will pay cash for complete unit; blazer with mounted pop-up or pop-up alone. I am in San Jose CA and can travel to view vehicle and self-transport or ship as needed...I am a previous owner of one of these rigs in 1985 and looking to re-buy or re-build so to keep these rigs on the road for my wife and I retirement.
So am I reading you had a FWC Blazer camper back in the day? Very cool. Got pics of the old setup?

Yes, there are a few of us nuts that have these off little campers that are here on CK5. I've had mine since 2018 and gone through a lot of it in the process. You can click on the link in my signature below for the action.

Guys have driven far for them, one member bought his in Washington state and drove from Oklahoma to get it. I've been contacted by another southern California guy through Instagram that bought one out of the Denver metro area and had it "professionally" transported to him. I used the quotes because the camper never made it. The driver blamed it on a freak wind storm that blew it off the back of the K5 destroying it in the process. Keep in mind, I've had mine up to 95 mph crossing Utah and didn't once have any feeling like it was going to eject. Most likely the driver of the transport truck did something as the story of a big windstorm sounded like BS to me.

I've had mine for 4 years and used it over the last three summers. I love having it.

I never stop looking for them. I'll keep you in mind if when I find another one.

Oh, yes......not really looking for Chalets, although nice

Thank you Wes!! I gotta say that is real encouraging!! I’ll make a thread. How’s you get your profile to say half ton status? My 88 is on half ton running gear as well
You can change your title by clicking on your username at the top of the site and then selecting "Account details" and then look for custom title.

and welcome

New here. Looks like a good spot to get information. I posted an intro in the garage thread but looks like I should have posted here instead. Own a 79 swb c10 Cheyenne 2wd, an 84 k10 4wd lwb Scottsdale, and my son owns a 84 k5 Silverado 4wd.

I'm currently restoring the blazer, I just finished the c10. I’m finishing up the body now, doing blocking and sanding getting ready for guidecoat and finally paint. Motor is done, bunch of new front end parts. I’m not a pro by any means but have gotten by I guess. I have alot of pictures that I will post when I find out how. I always liked looking at other project posts to get ideas. So yeah, that’s about it.

Become a donating member and pic post away....
By the way, welcome. I'm in Arizona as well, East Valley.

Greetings from Arkansas. I’ve had a love affair with these trucks my whole life. My first truck was a k5 35 years ago, but I always coveted those barn doors. I’ve had a couple of mid 80’s suburbans in the past, but they were very poor rusted out examples. I just took possession of a 1990 2500 Suburban. It’s a nice California truck that I probably paid too much for, but I just didn’t want to go down the rust road again. It will be primarily a hunting vehicle which involves some moderate trails and some gumbo mud. I plan to lift it 4 inches, run some 35’s and put a 383 in it. I’m fairly certain that’s what I want to do, just not certain the best course to get there. Thanks for having me.

Well, she runs on cubic money...

Wander the site a bit and get familiar, then start a thread in the “driveway” forum
Post all your questions there, and I guarantee you’ll have plenty of responses

I’m stealing the cubic money line. I’ll get a thread in the Driveway. Wasn’t sure if it goes there or the suburban board. I’m guessing I need a few posts to post a picture. The transporter dropped it off in the dark last night. Light of day revealed just how bald the tires are.

The driveway allows you to set it up as a build thread which gives you a few more options than just posting it in the suburban thread

Hello everyone, new here but not new to K5s. Owned a ‘86 K5 GMC Jimmy Sierra Classic back in the 90s in Houston for almost 10yrs that I never should have sold. Great memories in that truck and can’t wait to find another. I was not in a spot financially to keep her properly repaired at the time; now I am, so I’m K5 hunting again. What the heck happened to make these trucks so darn expensive and popular?! Reading up on threads a lot. Will update with sexy K5 photos and join as a paying member once I find my new girl. Cheers all.

Welcome @86K5SC, they became classics and we who grew up with them can afford to indulge now. Good luck on your hunt for a k5 and making new memories

Thanks for letting me be a part of this community. My name is Wayne, I’m 45 and currently reside in Martinsville Virginia. I’ve been a Chevrolet/GM lover as far back as I can remember. My current ride is a 95 Chevrolet Ext cab K1500 with the Silverado and Z71 package. Red on Red.
5.7 Tbi with a 4l60E
I’ve rebuilt the throttle body along with doing the tbi ultimate modifications, injector pod spacer, 14psi FPS, Tbi power charger and bumped the timing up to 4* BTDC.
I cut off my factory exhaust from the muffler back and replaced it with a Thrush turbo muffler with a 12in extension on the outlet.
I replaced all of the interior and gauge cluster bulbs to red LEDs.

Hello Everyone. Joined today after following ck5 on instagram. Looking forward to gathering all the intel available as we start our ‘71 K5 restoration. Wife’s dad bought this new and she drove it in HS…..quite the ride back then. Looks to be a long road ahead, but we are excited about the potential this K5 holds. Best, Ron and Kathy4EFF8BF6-2A01-48C8-A061-C5B8A9E04B83.jpeg
