Introductions & Greetings

Welcome to CK5, stop in and say hello, this is a great place to make your first post and tell us a little about yourself/truck. :D
Hey everyone,

Just wanted to introduce myself and my new-to-me 1989 GMC Jimmy. I'm Terrence (aka The Big Red Yeti), and I'm located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. After a long search, I finally found a Jimmy that I've been dreaming of recreating for years.

It's a two-tone black/grey with the 5.7L 350 V8 and, of course, the removable hardtop, which I can't wait to take off this summer. The truck is in pretty good shape for its age, but it's got a few quirks that I'm looking forward to sorting out with the help of this knowledgeable community. Cosmetically, the body and paint have been upgraded, and it is in near-perfect condition now. Next is the interior! Working on keeping the engine clean and running for now but planning an LS3 swap in the future.

So far, my to-do list includes:
  • The usual tune-up: plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and all the fluids.
  • Rear window: It's a bit slow and finicky, so I'll be diving into the regulator and motor soon. I've already been reading through some of the great threads on here about that!
  • A few interior cosmetic bits: the dash has a lot of cracks, and the seats have the typical wear and tear.
I'm no master mechanic, but I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty and learn as I go. My main goal is to have a reliable and fun weekend cruiser to enjoy the back roads and other day-to-day activities.

I've already spent some time browsing the forums and have been really impressed with the amount of information and the helpful attitude of the members here. I'm looking forward to contributing where I can and learning from all of you.

Cheers,
The Big Red Yeti (aka Terrence)

Sounds cool and welcome!

Hey guys, just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Dustin, I live in Arvada Colorado. Long time CK5 lurker, never signed up for some reason until this morning. Originally from middle Georgia, moved to Colorado in 2015 have been to a couple of Blazer Bash's super excited for this years. Going to snap some pics of my rig and do a longer post about it later. But I have a 77 Jimmy, formally green, now Blue, 1 tons, 40's, and LS swapped. Excited to see a lot of you guys again this year at BB25

New member here from Texas. I currently have an '87 K20 Suburban that I'm gathering parts for an upgrade. The Beast is currently a 5.7/TH400/NP208 with 14SF rear and 10 bolt front, but I have almost all the parts for the new configuration with an 8.1, NV4500, 203/205 (just looking for a round pattern 205), and M1028 front and rear axles. Also have some 4" front springs and planning a shackle flip for the rear with plans to run 37's as basically a camping/hunting and offroad rig for me and my young boys, as well as a vacation truck to pull behind our motorhome (which we have done for the last few years in stock configuration).

do you hunt around Odessa?

No, but I was born and raised there! I did most of my hunting near San Angelo, but we lost that lease a couple seasons ago. Family is still in Odessa and we visit a few times a year.

I saw on your profile you were from the DFW area; I have lived down there a few times. I recognized the 79764 from being in Lubbock.

Hey guys! New member here from Houston, TX. I have loved these old Blazers from afar for years, and now that I have renovated my home I decided it was only natural to move on to another "renovation", which is the assembly of multiple '72 K5 Blazers from assorted pieces with the intention of selling off all but one complete version in hopes of said venture subsidizing the copious amounts of money I will ultimately be pouring into my own '72 out of this group!

So far, I picked up a '72 chassis, engine and tranny from Ft. Worth over Labor Day weekend + a '72 K5 Blazer and '71 GMC Jimmy from Lake Charles, LA this past weekend. Next weekend, I am driving from HTX to Northern Ohio with a buddy to pick up another "complete" '72 K5, a '72 K5 body, and a number of brand new sheet metal pieces.

Most Importantly (and I will post this in the general discussion also), does anyone in the Houston Texas area have both the knowledge, the time, and the willingness to take a look at what all I have brought back to start with to help me determine what is both salvageable and/or worthy of selling??? While I believe I can do a lot of the work for this project, I cannot claim to have a great understanding of many of these original parts and their associated value... so any and all guidance would be very much appreciated! I am more than happy to compensate said gracious individual for their time either monetarily, in ice cold adult beverages of their choice, or both!

Looking forward to learning more here and getting things started!
