Introductions & Greetings

Hello everybody,

My name is Lionel I'm French (nobody's perfect), I found the site CK5 very nice here, so I joined because I NEED YOUR HELP.

I started the restoration of a Chevrolet Blazer K5, 1978, this car will be ready to cross and I see on this site that does not lack the chevy's!

So I would appreciate information on being suspended or what is the best (kit)?

How high is the best??

Do I have to add a body lift??

Exicte there anyone among you who install coil-overs on his chevy??

So much for the presentation, and excuse me if there are errors, I use a translation site because my English is not very good.

Thank you in advance for all your answers

Best regards

Lionel

Hey Lionel,
I just wanted to let know that your questions are going to be a little hard to answer. Alot of what you are asking depends on what you want to use your truck for. For example, if you want a truck to drive everyday and be able to take off road on the weekends, most people use a minimum lift such as a 3" to 4" suspension lift, just enough to be able to get good all terrain 35" tires under the truck and have a little better handling off road. Do you plan to use your truck for playing in the mud, or just trail riding, or rock climbing. See there are alot of different things that people use these trucks for so there is really no strait forward answer to your questions. Plus it also depends on your style and preference (what you find looks, and works the best for you). Personally i am working on building my truck to use in the mud, and still be able to drive it on the road. mostly for winter time as we used to get some decent snow here, haven't for a few years but here's hoping. I am building my own lift instead of buying one, mainly due to finances plus i like the way the truck rides on the street with the lift i am building. I hope this at least helps you to think about exactly what you want to do with your truck and even though i am new to this site myself, i have seen alot of people helping others with ideas and instructions on how to do things so i am sure you will find alot of help for your truck build.
Good luck!

Thought I'd introduce my self.

Rfizzle or R.J. which ever works for you.

My wife's grandparents just gave me their 1977 GMC Jimmy for Christmas. 400 with 114k, rebuilt tran. <500 miles, rust, all stock so far.

I ordered new springs for 4" of lift.

Thought I'd join this forum since it's always good to get specialized advice.

Hi I'm Calvin. Used to come here all the time when I had a 1980 Jimmy. LOADS of info on this site, I love it. Anyways I'm back cause I plan on getting a Suburban and this will entice me to wanting one even more!

New guy from Canada here..

My names Brock, and after a couple years of looking I finally found a K5 with all the options I want at a price I could afford.

Just bought it a couple days ago, and I've always been browsing through this site looking at what I could do if I ever bought a K5 of my own, so figured I might as well introduce myself.

The K5 I just bought is an 84' GMC Jimmy Sierra Classic 4x4. Original untouched 305, 700r4 (rebuilt ~5,000 km ago), 10 bolts, rear posi, steering stabilizer, quad front shocks, working air tilt and cruise, power locks and windows, power rear window. Black and grey interior and exterior.

When I bought it the truck had been sitting for about 5 years and the motor wasn't very healthy. About 2 hours into the highway trip home it seized, but I'm not worried about it, my first plan was to swap in a mild 350 anyways.

Currently I've got the K5 in my garage with the 305 ready to come out as soon as I get an engine crane. Plans/dreams are to one day do a D60/14 swap, mild lift (4" or 6") and possibly a 4-speed swap.

hello--i just joined up. i have a 1972 k-5 blazer and it's mint. i look forward to talking to you all. thanks.

intro

New to the forum, Great place you have here.

I'm the proud owner of a 1988 GMC full size Jimmy. Unfortunaly its in the shop. the oil pump quit and toated the motor. got a new Goodwrench Crate motor from GM on the way, and fresh seals going in the Transmission.

All original, still had the clear seatcover on it when i bought it. Great Body, Power windows and locks. Rear windows a little sticky,

pics to come later.

Looking to do a full resotration a little at a time.

Hello from Fort Worth

Quick overview. I had a cj5 that had to sell. Now getting the "bug" again, but, for some reason this time I am wanting a K5 to build. (have not figured out whether or not this is a good thing yet) :wink1: Anywhoo....

Found this edited Personally, I can do pretty much everything that needs to be done (other than welding,,,, and setting rear gears), so whatever project I get will be done pretty much "in house". Any thoughts on this truck? Keep in mind after talking to the seller, the truck has been stiing outside with top off for a while. (Said interior was full of leaves). Also, he did not want to "fight the mud" while taking out the engine/trans so he sawsalled the trans crossmember.

Thanx all for the help, and hopefully will be around. Gonna lurk more than anything until a purchase is made,,, then,,, I will be driving you all crazy... :doah:

ok, cant post links until made more posts....

Hello There Everyone!!! I really excited about the forum...I'm gonna post some pics soon, I love my 85 k-5. Like most girls I'm a little sissy about going too crazy with my ride in the current condition (cause it is my only car) but spent some quality time off roading and have been impressed so far.

I have always wanted my k-5, I picked my truck up for $2500, running and passing smog. I bought it with the current lift and tires, I drive it everday. I feel like I should have a little more bottom end torque, and the gears are right for the size tires so other than the engine just being well worn in, I'm not sure what I can do to improve this. I have no sway bar and can really tell the difference in handling. I get a lot of clicking in the rear when I'm turning...haven't had anyone be able to figure that out yet.

Other than really wanting to LMC the interior out... I love my dirty truck

New to CK5

Hello everyone! I purchased my 89 Jimmy about 2 months ago. It came with 137k miles, gnarly bumpers and roof rack and offroad lights. 4in lift, 33x12.50 BFG ATs. The body and underderbody have little rust. The interior is in great shape (no tears, damage), only problem is stains.

My plans for this truck aren't geared for wheeling. I want it to be a head turner when I drive. It's gonna be my daily driver for years to come. When we get our next house, with garage, I'm gonna redo the exterior. For the time being, gonna do interior and treat underbody/frame for rust. I'll try to get some pics up soon.

Immediate plans include : timing chain swap for gear drive, set of 35'' BFG's w/matching spare, dual steering stabilizer kit, aftermarket front seat, steering wheel swap, air intake swap, headers, performance CC, Flowmaster muffler, rebuild tailgate/window setup (currently the window grinds and stops when going up and down), RustBullet the underbody in the spring and a bunch of other things my wife tells me to put on the list. If anyone has any ideas/suggestions on making my rig look good, I'm all ears.

I'm looking forward to making friends and swapping stories on CK5.
