Introductions & Greetings

Hey I'm 05typeRSX, A.K.A. TFNG

Hello everyone I'm 05typeRSX. That is the name I started using on a different forum for my daily driver Acura RSX so that is the name I now use everywhere to keep things simple. Don't worry I do have a K5 quietly rusting away in my driveway much like many of you. A PT Cruiser that belongs to the wife sits beside it( her daily driver and the first new car we ever bought). Hiding inside the garage is my pride and joy from highschool, a 1970 Malibu that ran 13 seconds flat at Heartland Park back in the day. By now you can safely assume that my taste in trasportation is all over the map but I must confess I have owned more Chevy vehicles than any other make. The list is as follows; '70 Malibu, '90 454SS, '93 Dakota, '74 long bed Custom Deluxe 2WD, '86 Celica, '02 PT Cruiser,'85 K5 Blazer, '90 Celica, '93 MR2, '05 RSX type S. Now for sure I don't still own all of these but I have had to perform all the maintainance on all of these cars and they all have had 100K on them so I do more than just change oil. In short I am a certifiable gearhead and I must say that I am glad to be joining the ranks of CK5. I hope that I can bring as much or more to the table as I intend on using from all of you.
Thanks

Hello everyone, I've been visiting this site frequently lately so I figured I'd make it official and become a member.

My name is Eric. I live in the small hicktown of Morrison, WI (half hr drive south from Green Bay). I am currently 18yrs old. I love working on cars/trucks. Im restoring a '72 cutlass with my dad and I've already painted my own truck. About a year ago I purchased a '77 K5 blazer for $400. Its mechanically sound and has a good frame, but the body has seen better days :wink1:. Its just a mudtruck to reduce the abuse to my dd that I used to wheel. (Im only 18, can't aford lots of parts right now). I hope to eventually get a body thats in decent cond. and make a nice truck out of it.

I can see there are very many talented builders/fabricators on this site, and Im glad to become a part of it. Im looking forward to learning a lot!
Welcome to another fellow Wisconsinite. I live about 1 hour North of Green Bay. Once again Welcome.

Hello!

Well my name is Billy, I am currently in the Army stationed in Wiesbaden, germany. I will be stationed in Ft. Hood, Texas in mid April. I Bought an 87 K-5 last August when I went to the states on leave. After buying it went and bought a 6" lift kit and some 35x12.50's and went mudding! Now I am on my way back to the states and will be building the K-5 to handle some mud and rocks, can't wait! See you all on the trail!

Calopolus

Hello. I have a 1990 full size Blazer, and another on the way for parts. I am a poor soul always looking for the best way to get every penny out of every part or upgrade. Don't get me wrong im not a cheapo who never springs for a decent part, I just can't always get what I want. I havnt had much of a chance to look around yet, but there is a caliper bracket giveaway I'm dying to enter:woot:

I'm Adam I've been sort of kind of on here for a little bit but i decided to get more involved. I bought a 73 blazer a few months ago for $1600 and was recently laid off from work so i thought it would be a good time to attempt to rebuild it. I've never really done anything like this so i'm kind of teaching myself as i go..

Thought I'd drop in. I'm not from Colorado, but you guys definetly seem to have the utmost collection of chevy truck knowledge here. I'm picking up an 89 suburban tomorrow morning most likely. I plan on making it into something I can get onto trails with, but nothing too extreme. I'd also like to be able to drive it to work and back. I just recently joined the army and I'm stationed in NC, but originally from WI

Hi, I'm Colin from San Diego and I own a 1975 K5 that I bought used while going to Cal-Arts in the early eighties. I have rebuilt the 350, gone through a couple of trannys and rear ends, added a 3 in lift and its on its 3rd or 4th paint job. I am currently running BFG 32's. I keep the roof off and use it to cruise the coast, or to the desert to romp the old beast. I guess at this point I'll keep it forever unless my nephew talks me out of it when he turns 16!

Here we go. Just got my dream and am in the process of making the Jeep to Suburban transition. As the name says, it is a big, black 1989 GMC Suburban. It is a beast and I am looking forward to working on it some more. It is a 1500 with a rebuilt 350 with cams and some other extras under the hood that I will list when I figure them out. 32' BFG Mud Terrains with some kind of upgraded suspension that I am still trying to figure out also. I live in Fairbanks, Alaska at the moment but have lived just about everywhere including Colorado Springs, West Coast, Northeast, Southeast, Hawaii.

First on my list of upgrades is leveling the suspension. A previous owner used this thing as a pretty significant tower so I am suffering from the usual rear-end sag despite the suspension upgrades. What do you all suggest for leveling this thing. I think I will have to go up around 2" to be level and I would prefer not to use blocks but don't want to mess with the leaf springs too much because I don't want to make the ride much more harsh. I also don't want to do anything that will decrease the towing ability.

I have read about the shackle flip but it looks like that will take it up 4" at a minimum. Longer leaf springs tend to increase the stiffness of the ride unless there is something out there I don't know about. Years ago I put towing leaf stiffeners on my Jeep and they worked fairley well to combat sag but made the ride pretty harsh. Also they won't work on these leafs. What have you all used?

Next is an external spare tire carrier that I can put a full size spare on with my current 32s or a little bigger when I get to that point in the future. Anyone have any suggestions?

Glad to be here and look forward to getting to work on this thing.

Hey all,
My name is jon I am active duty army and full time gearhead/grease monkey. I am currently in hawaii but I leave in a month:D I will then be in kansas for a spell to work on a 82 chevy k10 long bed i recently bought there. I really dont know much about the truck other than whats wrong and 10bolts front and back. i already ordered a 4inch suspension lift, 35 bfg a/t's new wheels, couple replacement body panels. my goal is to use this truck as a trail truck and not a serious offroad machine. Also gonna use it to learn how to weld and fabricate. On a side note I really dont know much about older school gms and genI motors, i am more of the lsx kinda guy so leaning that way for the power plant

I'm C Guillen I have an 86 K304x4 truck and a 91 V35004x4 crew cab I can't imagine owning any other trucks. I still work on a few race cars for clients and I own Guillen Motorcycle Shop. My wife and daughter drive a 2006 SS trailblazer. I love my Harley Davidson Road King and my "ChevyTrucks"
