Howdy K5 gang!

My name is Ben and I live in Carbondale, Colorado - where the men are men and the sheep run scared! I am new to this forum, but not new to forums. I have an 04 2500 Duramax as my daily driver, 3 mountain bikes, 2 snowmobiles, a snowhawk, 3 townie cruiser bikes, a jetta TDI for the wife and only a 1 car garage! I am a 33 year old wrench head, have always owned Chevy trucks, and have always wanted a K5. 5 years ago, I was given one that only needed a starter and off we went. It is an 83' with a reassigned VIN # from Texas and as far as I can tell it is built from 3 different trucks with a mess of mods :doah:

I haven't driven it in 16 months now since I pulled the transmission and I am here seeking info and advice on NP203's.

picking up '86 K5 on Christmas day

wow, 200+ pages of member introductions, that's impressive.

well, I'm another NOOB. never owned a K5 but I've always liked them. I've owned 5 or 6 Chevrolet trucks in the past, various years from '85 to 2000. some were 4WD, some not. Been playing with turbo Buicks (Grand Nationals and T-types) for the last 14 years or so, but I'm about over that. picked up an '86 K5 pretty cheap off Craigslist a few weeks ago. it wasn't local so I had my brother-in-law go check it out for me. He's an ASE Certified mechanic and very knowledgeable about GM trucks. the Blazer checked out good (for the price) so I bought it. haven't seen it in person yet, planning to pick it up from my brother-in-law Christmas day.

this Blazer is basically stock except for the trans., springs, and tires. I was told the origina 700r4 lost reverse so the previous owner replaced it with a TH350. I plan to go back to a 700 asap. I'm assuming it has lift springs since it's sitting on 33x12.50 TSL's.

initial plans:
- replace the existing TH350 with 700R4
- replace worn-out 305 with 350, possibly 383 although I want to look at cost and complexity of converting to LS-based truck engine.
- fuel injection of some kind.
- replace OEM steel wheels with OEM aluminum wheels (already have a line on a set)
- fabricated bumpers, including tire carrier and wench provisions.
- swap-out bias-ply TSL's with more street friendly radial mudders
- make the AC *COLD*
- drive the wee out of it, mostly on the street but with trips to the trails as often as possible (nothing too serious, just rookie stuff for fun with the family)

will post pics asap.

hi everyone i am a newby anyhow i own a 1976 jimmy it has been in the family since my dad bought it in 1978 i live in melbourne australia i am about to pull it apart and start a full resto on it i have loved this truck ever since dad bought it i was 12 years old when he came home with it he then spent about a month converting it from left hand drive to right hand drive i have alot of memories of it going up hills and sand dunes other vehicles could not make recently i had the pleasure of pulling a couple of nissans out of mud holes that the jimmy went through with ease the truck is a 1976 jimmy high sierra with a 400 engine only a slight lift in the suspension and 32x11.5 tyres coz in australia any tyre sticking out of the gaurds brings unwanted attention from the cops anyway it is nice to find a forum to chat to other people with similar trucks
