Metal Twister in San Diego

I joined to pick the brains of the more learn-ed. I hate to get flamed on the first post but I might as well get it over with.

I own a off road / hot rod shop in San Diego. Everything I own is pre-smog (1975 or older in Ca.) so that I can tweak it into submission legally. I just acquired a 1977 GMC Jimmy with a 305/ TH350 combo lifted and for the most part ready to go. The body was totally stripped of glass, dash, wiring, etc. I am going to be doing a body swap with a 1974 jeep Cherokee. After doing allot of measuring It looks like its going to be fairly straight forward. Stretch the frame from 106.5" to 109" wheel base and put a stretch on the rear drive shaft. It looks to be golden after that...

I figure its going to be a ton easier finding GM parts for a
K5 in the middle of Mexico than a pieced together, under powered 1974 heep. Anyway I'm here to learn about the Chevy 4x4 workings.

Looks to be a good group with tons of knowledge. I will probably poke around here behind the scenes for a while before becoming a paying member.

I will show you what I have in mind after my fifth post.;)

Hi my names Jesse and im an Alc.....ohhhh wrong site!! lol....jk (but been there before)
Names Jesse, Im from Avondale Arizona (just west of Phoenix) just bought me a 1985 k5 Blazer. Pretty new to the k5 world. owned a 1985 Short bed silverado a while ago, till it got stolen.(owned for like 2 weeks) Never really got back into it till now. looking forward to meet new peeps. Looking for info, ideas and advise, also to lend a thought or two from time to time.

Hello Everyone! MY name is Keith and I'm newly registered to this site but have been visiting for about a month now trying to learn about different ways to start my project truck. Its a 1972 GMC Jimmy cst that has been stored in a barn for 20 years. I acquired it from my uncle as a trade for up keeping his small farm. Here is what it has 70k orig miles, 350/th350, dana 44's with newer 3.73 gears, lots of reinforcements around axle tubes and gas tanks, rollcage, tow hooks, skid plates etc. It also came with some mice problems as well due to a cowl flap left open in the interior and the wiring/vacuum tubing in the engine bay was randomly chewed in different areas. The rig is rust free though which has helped me tremendously so far. Its off to a slow start because I generally spend most of my time working the farm on the weekends and only getting a few hrs in to work on the truck. My plan is to take it apart piece by piece, replace seals, clean up the parts, reinstall them, get tips from you guys, and ultimately end up with a nice winter/ hunting rig that I can enjoy for years to come.

Glad to find this place. I currently spend a lot of time under and in my 89 3/4 ton sub. Of course it is always in the modification process. I'm sure you can identify with that. I'm getting ready to start on a 72 k5 that I picked up 5 years ago but I'm just now starting on it! I'm looking forward to swapping ideas with all of you. Blood and Grease to all.

New to the site but not the trucks

Hey, just got introduced to the site by a friend. He wants me to build him a mud truck out of his k5 blazer. He has just enough knowledge to make him dangerous (my kind of friend). I am a welder/fabricator by trade and a hot rodder/biker by choice. I have been a chevy man all my life so this isn't anything new to me. He told me about you guys and suggested I check it out.
Glad I did.

new to K5

hey all my name is Bill. i just bought a 78 K5. it currently has a 7" lift with 40x17.50 Ground Hawgs under it. being new to the K5 scene this will be interesting project for me. it currently has a 12 blot rear and d44 up front. yeah i know yuck but with any luck i will be changing those out for a 14 bolt and a d60. just wanted to stop in and say hello. i know i will diffently be upgrading my membership here soon.

hi from nova scotia.. i bought a 90 jimmy last year to plow with but after looking at it closer it was just too rough to fix.. too bad because it was a fancy one.. so instead of fixing it i found a 90 blazer in better shape to put the plow on.. while i was installing the plow i got a smoking deal on michelin tires of any size or style, so i figured what the hell.. 33/12.5 BFG MT km2s.. turned out they rubbed so it gave me a perfect excuse to lift it so in went a 4" trail master, new brake lines, painted the rally wheels black and replaced all the steering parts.. i came across this site a while back but only just regestered, cant wait to dive in with all the advise and tips im sure i will recieve..

oh, i forgot to mention i plan on D60s and a cummins in the future

hi, new member here

hi i have an 87' gmc suburban 2500 with a sb 350. ive got 33's under it, would love to go with 35's its a 4spd man. and i love it for that. in the time ive owned this burb ive come to realize that its very rare to have a burb. with a 4spd man., she my baby! my burb's in alaska and im down in oregon, i plan on returning to her soon. can someone tell me how to post pics?:doah:

my name is davin and i recently bought a 1990 K5. i live in niagara falls, ny and found this one on ebay. i won it at $1350. it's in pretty good shape, the interior is excellent. it only has 57000 mi carfax checked. it needs rear fenders, driver side tailgate hinge and the driver side sill is starting to show signs of wear. I bought this in Erie PA so the rust isn't so bad, but i live in the great salt state so i might look into some underside protection. i haven't really taken a good look at the bottom so i don't know what it is even supposed to look like on the under side.

that's why i joined this site, to help me navigate my way around the particulars of this model and help me find the best parts, advice, and accessories.
