A little help

New to the site but not at all new to trucks. I'm looking to start a new project on a 70, 71 k5. just looking for a project maybe even a started one. doesn't need a drivetrain or all the interior parts for that matter. just a semi solid body that can be put on a trailer and has a title. I looked through the classifieds and didn't see quite what I'm looking for yet. So if you have on just laying around and are willing to take a couple pictures that would be great. I live in Wisconsin and everything up here is rusted beyond repair ;)

New here and saying hi!

Hi, everyone! I just ordered the parts this past weekend for the 2nd part of my build on my daily driver. I have a 1977 Chevy stepside with a 355 and a t350, right now it is sitting on 6" of suspension lift and 36" Iroks. I ordered zero rates and shackles for roughly 2.5"-3" more for the front [yes I have 3* shims on hand], and I also ordered the Off Road Design rear shackle filp w/ shackles and zero rates for the rear, all of this should allow me to get rid of the blocks.I have been spending most of my free time on craigslist looking for some 38.5" or 39.5" 's that arent shot or asking retail price for them.If anyone on here has some or knows of some I would be grateful. I am in Derby, KS [ wich is 5 miles South of Wichita] so if there are in tires around here it would save me an arm and a leg in shipping.Well, just wanted to say hi andthrow a bug in some ears, again, any info is appreciated. Glad to be here and hope to meet some new wheelers!

Hey names chris, got an 86' k5 not much done 33s rear locker and 350 but i keep it clean, i'd like to find a convertable top, similar to a skyler but idk where to find one if anyone could let me know.

Its got reman'd trans with papers, create motor (VIN says 305. the PO doesnt know) service records say 5.7. Its either poor condition or weak if its a 350. Its over carb'd, sucks gas like no bodys business and has an exhaust leak. lift 3" on tiny 32s. White with red body strip. The dash has 'issues.' ill write more when i remember.

I am new to the K5 world as well as this site.

I have put a lot of money in my beast, and quickly. I still have a lot I want to do. Can anyone tell me a good place to find custom parts. I am currently in Afghanistan, almost finished with my tour. Soon I will be back at home with my family and my Jimmy!

New K% (1986) owner from UK

Hi all
I am in Surrey in UK
I have just got a 1986 ex military K5 6.2 V8 diesel.
Over here this is the largest truck in the village.
I love it, want to learn loads about it's history, for one it is RHD, which seems to have been done soon after production, so I guess it was sent as a job lot to US military in RHD countries....any ideas anyone?
I am going to make it immaculate and immune to our crazy climate.
I would love as much help and advice as possible.
Very interested in 24V electric experts who can help me with auxillary lighting issues.
Parts & accessors are gong to be really hard to get here, mechanically he is sound, only 67k miles. Body has been done here about 4 years ago, quite well I think.
I need new wheels and tyres, badly
I also need to totally refurbish the interior as it is terrible.
Exhaust advice also welcome, as it sounds subdued and I like noise as much as my neighbours don't.

New guy from Texas

I bought my first 89 blazer a month ago, it has the 350 tbi, auto trans all pretty stock . The body has some scrapes , small dents , paint has peeled here and there and is missing a back seat. I bought a 02' Tahoe third row seat and trying to come up with mounts and I am thinking of bedlining the interior for sure. I am really enjoying this truck so far , it drives great , lots of fun to drive. I am wanting a decent trail rig but need it to be kid friendly and street worthy.:D Love seeing the great ideas on here lots of cool rides.

hi

Hello my name is kirt im a Pharmacy student at the University of New Mexico in Albuquereque New Mexico. I found this site and thought it was very interesting and helpful for the things that I want to do to my 1987 GMC Jimmy. I own a 1987 GMC Jimmy, with a 4 inch lift and 35 inch tires. recently has a new GM 350 Crate motor. NP 208 T-case and a SM465 Transmission. I want to do many things to it but just dont have enough time and money as I am a college student. I recently have been looking to purchase 1-ton axles for it and just start to rebuild the axles peice by peice.

Hey all, my names Evan. Im 19 from Massachusetts. Drive an 84 k5. 8 inch superlift kit, 35x14.5 super swampers, a few motor bolt ons. Just finished rebuilding the th400 transmission with a B&M master offroad overhaul kit by myself. Runs better than it did before the trans blew. Hope to learn alot around here and become a contributing member!

Hi,

My name is Stuart. I have a 1984 K5 with a 305 which I bought in Minnesota a couple of years ago. It has around 60k miles on it, but the speedo cable broke a couple of thousand miles ago so I'm not sure what it has for certain. I'm interested in towing it flat behind a home made RV (GMC C6000 Topkick box truck) and I want to know if unlocking the front hubs and throwing the transfer case into neutral is sufficient, or is there transfer case lubrication issues such that I should drop the rear drive shaft as well. I plan on building a bolt on tow bar, which I have done before for various vehicles, so I am well acquainted with that part.

I had to replace the rear window crank assembly due to the pot metal falling apart, and I found a whole tailgate for $100 which had a working assembly and a non-tinted window. I believe it was a '76. There is more rust on it than on mine, but I got the guts I wanted.

Did I say middle of nowhere? I have actually had this particular vehicle stuck several times so that my neighbor had to pull it out...once with a tractor...once with his big utility truck and once with a military grade telehandler. The telehandler wasn't really necessary...I think he just wanted an excuse to play with it.

Not sure if I'll ever make it to Colorado with the rig, but I would like to see the Rockies that far north. I visit my aunt in New Mexico from time to time...she's at 7800 ft elevation near Grants.

Anyway, happy 4x4'in.

Stuart

hey

Hey everybody,
My name is Marquise I live in phoenix, I was lucky enough to have bought a 1984 k5 blazer a few months ago... After a couple months of waiting for the title I finally got it and I'm ready to go problem is my knowlege about restoring and upgrading a truck is very limited... a friend and coworker refered me to this site saying there is a lot of friendly and knowledgable people here so... here I am my goal is to make it a more then relaible off road vehical and and a sound daily driver. It came with 33" tiires and 15" wheels. It also has a 305 in it with I think a 350 transmission. My thoughts are to throw in a 350 and leave the transmission the same because it runs pretty strong. Wanted to move up to 35s and put a 6in lift on. The interior was pretty trashed so I pretty much gutted it to start over, but now I'm lost as to what to do next.. any and all advise is welcome....
Thanks for reading

Noob shout

Morning, My name is Corey Allan, I'm originally from Maine but now I live in St. Croix US Virgin Islands. I'm 35, a Marine Engineer and I work for the Hovensa Oil Corp as a port engineer down here. I've got a 88 V30 crew SRW TBI 454, TH400 3.73LS 4x4. I added a small 3.5" lift and some 33's just to make it exceptable for the time being... I bought from the original ower a year and a half ago w 37k on the clock. He ordered it from the factory back in 88 and drove it once or twice a year back and forth to the Carolinas towing a boat..Its a stripper, vinal, no power but I love it, always wanted one, couldn't believe it when I saw it, no rust what so ever, original paint and non towing mirrors (no holes in doors). My first truck was an 85 Custon Delux 2wd w the same color, same interior, brings back some memories.. Anyway, I'm a member of Steel Solders and Pirate, I'm trying to piece together some information on the best 4-6" lift set up, steering (no death wobble) and gears VS tire size. I just bought a m1008 for the 4.56'd 14b and D60, lucky score for down here $250 bucks surplus from VI gov...My truck is my daily driver so I cant just dismantle it, I'm gunna rebuild both axles, order tires and rims and assemble when all the hardware is here. Would like to run 36"-38" TSL radials or Ground Hawg radials on H1 beed locks w 2" spacers w 6" to 8" of lift. So I will be looking for posts and conversations regarding these topics and I hope to see pics of steering, lifts, tires and rims for proportion... Im really curious how the 454, th400 4.56 w 36's or 38" combo works.. Thank you for your time...
