Introductions & Greetings

Thanks for letting me in. I have an old 76 k5 with a 4bt cummins, i've had it about 15 years it's been through a major tornado at the michelin plant in ardmore ok. A tree fell on it about three years ago "smashed the top a bit" hasn't been driven since, been busy building drag cars and a house. i have some axles "dana 60/70", humvee wheels and looking for info on swaping in those and some long leafs and hyd. assist. Im from south central ok. and own surber speed & custom. I'm ready to get the old beater going again and want to go wheeling with my family. thanks herb.

well my friends call me big bearded bastard, BBB, or triple B. so feel free to do the same.
i live in northeast florida but grew up in tulsa oklahoma and have always loved the K series trucks and blazers. ive owned an 82 blazer with 17" of lift with 1 ton running gear and 44" boggers but currently own a 89 GMC jimmy.

specs:

stock 350 with vortech heads and edelbrock TBI manifold. i chose to keep the stock fuel injection well because for how i like to play it works!

freshly rebuilt 700r4 and np241c

half ton running gear with 4.56 gears 6in skyjacker lift 3" body lift brand new warn hubs, 38" military michelins

all new brakes front and rear including master cylinder

newly rebuilt steering box and frame reinforcement from offroaddesign.com

all carpet has been removed and replaced with bedliner all power windows locks a/c etc still work.

front winch bumper and warn 8974 winch

goals:
lockers front and rear

crossover/ high steer set up

full rollcage

soft top from softtopper

maybe a mild motor overhaul with a lil bit bigger bumpstick.

i dont play much in the mud, i enjoy trails throughout the forest and trying to climb over ostacles my jeep friends do....
im hoping to find new products for my old beast that will help me have more fun

Dont know what to do

ok i am 16 and still in highschool. i have an 86 k5 blazer.this is my first car and project car at the same time. i have the TH400 transmission and dont know if it will with hold all the work im going to put on it. should i go with the 700r4 transmission to better or just rebuild the transmission
comment on what you think is right.
Thank you

the 400 trans is a much stronger transmission than the 700 especially if you plan to run large tires or high horsepower only thing you would gain by going to a 700 is overdrive

Semper fi mack, i did mine up at the stumps. I'm rollin a '75 jimmy, lucked in, got it from the 1st r.o. Just logged on to this site, tryin to find some so. Cal post.

hey all! another new guy here.just got my 2nd k5 and just got done with a rough country lift and 35" goodyear mtr's with kevlar.this place is great, best forum i have ever been on.

hey names Ethan, I'm 17 and a junior in high school and i've a lot planned out for my 72 k5 blazer. this is that one truck I'm gonna keep and i absolutely love it.

I've been lurking for a couple months now reading up on things and whatnot.

I bought a 1988 K5 just up the road from me. I paid $850 for it. The PO didn't know but it has a jasper tranny. It also has a solid 350 runs around 30 to 40 psi at idle. The 208 leaks a little bit but that just means there is actually a spot on the under side of it that is not rusted for once.

So far i have put new rear diff fluid in it and replace the seal.
Changed the oil pressure sender.
Plugged the 02 sensor back in.
Gutted the interior down to the seat belt and driver seat.

Thanks,
Jeremy

New Kid On The Block

Hey guys. Casey here. A work colleague recommended me to this site. I just purchased a 1977 K5 Cheyenne Blazer. There's so many questions I have and would love to hear everyoned input and feedback. Thanks and I look forward to interacting with you all.

Hey Yall, i have had an 84 k5 for a few months, i bought it for 600 dollars and it came with an 8 inch lift, 38 inch swampers, 4.10 or 4.56 gears, and detroit lockers. Body is straight, It just needed drivetrain. So far have built a 350 bored .30 over and just scored a th350/np205 combo. Ill make a build thread soon!

Glad to be here

Whats up folks, I have been on the site since '09 but really have just been hanging back and enjoying all the interesting post. I live in Raleigh NC and I am a property adjuster with Nationwide Insurance. I have had my 1987 GMC Jimmy since '09. Purchased it for a steal at $2K, had four brand new 35" BFG AT's and a new tranny and interior. Since then, I have put a new 350 in it, transfer case, softtop, audio system, custom front bumper with 10K winch, soft top, headers, throttle body riser, power trax no slip in the rear with a 6" suspension/body lift. I love my truck, its not my daily driver but it could be. See's a lot of off road action duck hunting and a lot of beach time. Look forward to getting a little more involved with the site. Feel free to email me with questions or whatever.

Ok, here it goes. I have been looking into K5's for the past year after selling my last rig and last week I picked up a 73 blazer for $2500. I was looking for an trail truck so the body isn't the prettiest, but I bought it for the drive train anyways. It has 4.10 gears, D44 8 lug front, 14 bolt rear locked with disc brakes, 350, TH400, NP205, 6" skyjacker front springs, 6" superlift rear springs with traction bars, and 35" super swampers. I think I scored a pretty good deal. It also came with a soft top and hard top. I have lots of plans for it and hope to learn a lot from the knowledge I've seen on the forum.
