Introductions & Greetings

Very first K5!

Yesterday, we traded an 1998 GMC Yukon for an 85 K5 Blazer. Super excited about a new toy to clean up, fix up. It has the 350 in it, new headers, Edlebrock carb and manifold, a new tranny, small lift, rolling on 35's. All that's really left is the fun stuff, paint and whatnot. Hubby wants to change up the exhaust in it, I suppose I could go for a bit more rumble! :-) The carpet is great in it. Think we need a new hardtop seal, washed it and water came in on the drivers side. :-) Funny thing is that somehow the key was broken off in the ignition so that is a bit interesting, will have to get that taken care of. I'm assuming that the ignition key is needed to put the window down from the tailgate, so for the moment we have to control the rear window from the inside switch. My kids call it "The Beast"

I've read and gazed this forum for quite a while. Finally registered!
I own an 82 K5. I work on monster trucks for a living. Looking to build a tough prerunner.

Bad Vibrations

Hello I am hoping someone can help me to pin point a problem on the K5 I just bought. It has ~6 or 8" lift with blocks and has a noticably bad vibration when accelerating and slowing down. If at anytime I put it in Nutreal, there is no vibration. Therefore, I would assume I could eliminate the tires and bearings. It has locking hubs, which are unlocked, so I would also assume that it is not in the front end either. I checked the motor mounts and the motor doesnt move (At ALL) when reving up. The U-joints are new and the only things I can come up with are the angles of the drive shaft relative to the output shaft of the transfer case and rear diff. Or possibly the rear torsion bars as there arent any there. I would assume that if it were the torsion bars, or lack there of, I would be able to reduce this vibration dramatically by slowly accelerating, but thats not really the case. I'm afraid of driving this truck and dont know what will happen if I continue to. Please help.

You need CV driveshafts and possibly a transfer case 1" lowering kit to get rid of the vibs. Also check your axles and see if you can adjust your pinion angle some on the rear. You don't really want to do this to the front because then you'll wind up with bump steer and death wobble.

Hello

Hi, I am a new subscriber to the site but not new to blazer's. I live in a small town in Ontario, Canada and I started wheeling with an 80 blazer then an 86 k10 then a 90 blazer then an 84 k10 and went back to an 80 blazer.I mostly just play in the snow now after a short time in the mud.My truck has a 350 with proflow 2,th400,lomax 205,10 and 12 bolt upgraded axles, dual milemarker winches,38" tires and beadlocks, onboard air.

Name is Eric, live about an hour south of Charlotte, NC. I'm fairly new to the 4x4 world, had a zr2 s10 and decided to get rid of it for a k5 since I had wanted one for awhile. I found my 87 in Columbia a little over a month ago, $1300 with 85k original miles and only 25k on the dealer replaced 350...but it has tbi issues and i haven't figured it out yet so it runs like crap. Oh well, all the more reason to go big block....the only problem is my other hobby is just as expensive, collecting and shooting firearms. Hopefully I can curb the gun/ammo buying enough to make decent progress on the Blazer though.

My name is Mark, and I was a member here awhile back. It has been a few years and I couldn’t remember my username.

I live in Conifer, CO. I have one ‘77 K5 that I am stripping down for a dedicated trail truck that I will pull on a trailer. I don’t have the budget to do anything special, or much of anything at all. It will be a 350/sm465/205/D44/12Bolt/mini-spooled/35s/4” lift truck with minimal sheet metal left; a role cage and fuel cell…I have most of what I need in the barn. The top, tailgate, doors, and most of the fenders/quarters will be gone with no front inner fenders. I am using the outer fenders, radiator support, and hood from an ’87. I will just be careful with the front axle until I can do something better. I have one lifted ’76 K5 that I plan to restore and use for plowing snow. I have a ’87 ¾ ton lifted ‘burban that I currently use for plowing snow and pulling a trailer.

I spend most of my time in the spring/summer/fall months camping, shooting, and four wheeling with my 10 year old son.

I spend most of the winter moving snow, playing Call of Duty, and wishing I was camping, shooting, and four wheeling with my son.

New guy here living in the Raleigh/Durham area of North Carolina. I have a 2011 Suburban 2500 LT, and plan to do some mild mods to it just to make it a more capable recovery vehicle. Joined this forum to try to get info on what's available out there. Glad to be here.

Hey everyone. about to purchase an 84 k5 here in a few days. lots of friends have had k5's and i always wanted one so ima give a go at it. its a 84 with 350 and new tranny with 30k on it. 4.11 gears and 14 bolt in the rear and dana 44 in the front. 4 in lift and 31x10's (looks goofy). its in pretty good shape, payin 2700 for it. only problems i could find are cracked windshield, exhaust leak where the exhaust man. meets the head, windows need motors, no ebrake lines, and the carb needs to get tuned/replaced, its a 650 edel. body is in awesome shape as well as the interior. pretty excited. im living in newport, or as a coastie with a wife and 1 yr old daughter. if you know elliott or harrison rogers on this site im good friends with them. hard to find trails that fit a k5 here so looking for help with that and also with w/e problems i come across.

Hello,
My name is Colin. I live in Wisconsin just graduated from highschool. I have an 1985 GMC K2500 Suburban. Its got 4.10 gears, D44 front, 9.5 inch rear axle with a locker, stock suspension, 33" BFG All terrains, mostly stock 350 hooked up to a TH400 and a 208. Its been a fun project/DD. Picked it up in January of '11, just been fixing it up, nothing real fun done to it, yet :D.

Second post now .. just started a build thread for HOJ (Hunk of Junk). HOJ is a 72 GMC Jimmy. SB350, 4-speed SM465 through NP205. D44 front and 12-bolt rear.

Bout to pull the motor and rebuild the bottom half of the truck (steering and suspension). Looking for 14-bolt rear and D60 front. Going 1-ton all around with 37-38" tires and 6-8 inches of lift (probably a little fender trimming too).

3 more posts to pics inline!
