Introductions & Greetings

New Member

Hi, I've been using this site for helpful hints and finally decided to join. I live in East Texas and just recently bought my second K5. My original was a 1984 K5 Blazer that I had when I turned 16. I sold it to buy a new truck and have been kicking myself ever since. Finally, 10 years later, I found a 1985 GMC Jimmy that is completely rust free!!! It was to good to pass up, so I bought it. *Thanks Craigslist!!! Anyhow, I am working on restoring / modifying my new toy to what I have dreamed about for the last decade. I will be asking for advice and tips from all of you along the way and I hope to have a lot of fun along the way. Thanks for welcoming me and wish me luck.:woot:

Alex S- 73 Blazer

Hey guys! My name is Alex S and I have a 1973 Chevy K5 Blazer. I picked it up back in April and all I can say is that I love it! :D
I'm from the Storrs area in CT and attend UConn. I'm a member of the UConn Car Club (UC3).
I love to take the top off and go on a good cruise! I'd love to meet people with other Blazers in the area.
I intend to eventually do a full frame-off on my Blazer and do it as a resto-mod, mostly original with a few tasteful mods.

New to CK5

Hello,
I live in the San Francisco Bay area and spend a lot of time in Twain Harte as well. I have a 1969 Blazer with a new ZZ4 engine and an NV4500 five speed. I'm looking to connect with other 1969-72 owners in the area. Of particular interest is finding someone local who has a Blazer with a soft top made by Specialty. I'm wanting to install it but am missing a few parts, especially the vertical flange which connects the top to the windshield. I'd like to take a look at the installation on another vehicle. Thanks.

I've been lurking for a while reading the forums lot of good info on here and looking forward to learn more, I am from Lufkin,tx I just purchased my second k5 a few months ago a 89 w/ 350/th350 50 shot of NOS, about 15 inches of lift,49" iroks on 16.5x14 weld wheels, Dana 60front/70rear axles,5:86? Gears,Detroit lockers front and rear, I'm sure there's more that I'm forgetting but it is currently getting all seals and bearings replaced in axles and then 3-6" more lift and hydro assist steering.

Been a K5 owner since March 2012, signed up here, but not posted, used the search function a lot. Have owned many 73-87 trucks.

I have a 78 K5 350/SM465/NP205.

Hi,
I am the proud owner of a sweet 84' K5... i got her as a project vehicle, as i am taking auto-tech classes at a local community college.. for fun. I have found my new passion :) mechanics. I love races/pit crewing/ learning about even more in my new classes (a Suspension/steering/alignment class twice a week,, and an engines class once a week.)

These three things put together (classes, pit crewing & my new baby-the K5) are a marvel of the mechanical genius that exists everyday in our lives by seemingly ordinary people. I appreciate the friends i've made & the knowledge i gain little by little every new day. I look forward to learning more about this 4wheel drive by all the cool people on this forum. thanks so much for being here for us!

oh yeah, ...lots of systems to correct on my beast.. i want a 350 in place of her 305 (rip out the CA-emissions,) need to work on the tranny, she's got a 4" lift, I've picked up some great used 16"rims&36"mud-tires already.. so i'm waiting on my new spacers to come in.. (tie rods hit),,, oh & i gotta replace 3broken studs (this itself doesn't look like it will be easy on this vehicle.. 2front 1rear.) i just changed her front brakes.. need to repair pass.side brake line. & eventually would like to convert the rear brake assembly from drum to disk.

as i wait for the spacers to arrive, i am right now changing to manual locking hubs (supreme mile marker.) I will need some help on this... they are not seating correctly... i have taken everything out down to the retaining ring that is in front of the wheel bearing lock nut. I want manual locking hubs to stop the constant rotation of the driveshaft/inauto4wd...save gas etc. anywhoo thanks again! long list of "honey-do" work :D ... he pays, i do! We ride!.. just add mud :)

Newbie here

Hi guys and Ladies, I am not an owner yet, have been trying and haven't found "HER" yet. Looked at a decent 85 K5 yesterday but the rust was more than I wanted to tackle. Am working a deal on an 89 K5 that may be the one for me, will be a few weeks before I know as the owner is working away from home. Been lurking here for a little while trying to pickup tips on what to look for. I am an oldtimer and the K5 will soon be my retirement vehicle to pull my boat or Kawasaki Mule. So please hold down the "OLD" remarks please!! Mac

Power Steering problem

Hi my name is Justin, and I worked on my friends 90 full size blazer. His steering box was leaking so I replaced it with a reman from o'reillys and got evrything put together then added fluid and attemptedto bleed the system when after a few minutes noticed that the fluid was empty. I thought that the system must have worked some air out and added some more fluid. Then I finally noticed that the new box was leaking fluid from the output shaft. So I got another box from oreillys and put it on and went through the whole thing again of bleeding the system, and everything seemed to be ok. No leaks and it turned just fine, but then I went to go deliver the vehicle to my friend and as I drove down the street, the steering started to get hard to turn. Now I can't get the truck to steer at low idle. Only when I rev up the engine. I thought that maybe it was low on fluid or had air in the system, but I've been racking my brain on what could be the problem. I don't know if the pump was possibly on its last leg and going through two box changes made it finally die or what??? Also does it really matter what type of ps fluid I use? Someone said that the power steering fluid from valvoline isn't the right stuff. I need help........

your more than likely looking at a pump, relatively common... anything labeled power steering fluid should be fine.. ATF should be fine too imo...

My friend says that the pump is only about four years old but I'm not sure if is a reman also from somewhere like oreillys or not. He also has bigger tires that stick pretty far out. Would any of that add to the problem of the pump going out? I just don't want him thinking well u worked on the box and my truck didn't have a pump problem before. Thanks for the help!!!

Also is there any special way to make sure I bled the system completely?
