Get a rear bumper with a spare tire carrier, problem solved. Check with DIY4X and ORD.

I don't have a good answer for the seat question. I used 40/20/40 split seats from a newer pickup but the older K5 floor design (73-78ish) makes it difficult to install those.

I just purchased a softtopper from ORD. I am surprised that didn't try to hard sell me on the spare tire! :-)

I was thinking maybe an old surburban front seat might work. I also found a thread that was interesting in CK5 entitled "new seats in old truck"

Hey all, I'm a new member here, I am an 11 year member of ramchargercentral.com and have owned many many ramchargers over the years. I have also owned an s10 blazer in the past, a 71 cj5 and a 71 bronco. I currently drive a 1990 ramcharger with a 4 inch lift but I didnt join here to tell you about my ramcharger. I am the proud new owner of a 1976 chalet blazer and will probably be needing some tips from you all. looks like a great site, and I'm glad to be here!

Introduction

I just bought a 1984 Suburban Diesel project car. The first thing it will need is a complete teardown to see what is salvageable and what will be needed to turn it into something decent. I am sure I will have many questions for this forum. Thanks to everyone in advance.

Hi I am a new member, I am from York, PA. I'm a diesel mechanic and have always been into old c/k series trucks, blazers and suburbans. I have an 87 K5 Blazer I am still restoring. I've had it for about 6 years now. I started working on it when I was in 10th grade in highschool. I've made alot of progress since then, but I ran a little short on money for awhile and couldnt do much with it. It has a 350 tbi engine, trans. was swapped out by previous owner for a 3 spd th400 with what I think is a np208 transfer case. It has stock diffs, a 4" suspension lift, 35" BFG all terrrains, etc. Well its still a work in progress, I did alot of work to it when I was in highschool and it was my daily driver for about 3-4 years. Now I'm just trying to find the time and money to fix it up. Plans for the k5 are fourwheeling, cruising, car/truck shows, etc. Well thanks for reading my post and I look forward to using the ck5 site and forums.
 
Hello ColoradoK5 members. I have been checking out this site for a long time and have finally stepped up to join. I am a long time fan of all things Chevrolet and especially like the old trucks. I have not yet owned a blazer but have been close a few times. Now that my wife and I are moving out of the burbs into the country, we can get a (or many) old trucks. We are currently looking at a '91 burb as we sell our newer burbans. We're in Northern Virginia and heading away from the concrete jungle and the insanity of traffic nightmares.

The wealth of information here is priceless. Thanks to everyone that contributes. We will do our best to offer up helpful info as well.

You don't have to pay. The base membership gives you limited but adequate access while a paid membership give you 100%.

Either way you need 5+ posts to put up pics, this is to combat spammers.

OK I know I'm lame. Joined this site in '09 but finally bought a membership. Here's a few pics of my 1986 K5. My dad originally bought it in Sept of 1985 from Grand Chevrolet in Glendora, CA (sadly no longer there). We racked up 220k miles on it before any major modifications/repairs were needed. I bought a 4 bolt 355 8 years ago but only installed it in 2010. Before the engine was installed, I added a 4 inch lift and some pro comp 35's and front/rear detroit lockers (on the 10 bolts - I didn't know any better). In 2012 my dad passed away so I've started to slowly repair other stuff and got it repainted along with a trans rebuild. Since it's been in SoCal all its life, rust hasn't been an issue. I'm trying to finish it up but I do have a set of 1-tons that need some freshening and a set of 38.5 (after a suspension upgrade). I can probably handle the 14FF but the Dana 60 will def be a challenge (itll be a slow pace since I just also became a new dad 1 month ago)...

Newbie to CK5

Hi all,
I just aquired a 1971 Chevy Blazer CST. I live in Stamford CT and enjoy wrenching on my toy, I'm sure I'll be needing asistance and look forward to my experience here @CK5. Oh, I'm running a stock 350 with 4spd and 205 transfer case. Thanks, WildkatK5

New Guy from Mississippi, 83 K5 Project

This is a great website. I have been lurking for a few months and decided it was time to join up. My name is Bert and I live in Pearl, MS. About a year ago I purchased an 83 K5 Blazer for my son. I have been a life long Chevy Truck guy, this is my first 4WD and first square body. I have owned and restored Chevy trucks from 1963 to 1972. In fact I had to get rid of my 68 C10 project because I don not have room to do two at one time. The K5 is bone stock with original engine, trans. etc., even the interior is complete. All of the smog pump stuff is still connected. I have rebuilt the engine and have a new transmission ready to install. My biggest issue is going to be with sheet metal. It has a little rocker rust which is no big deal but the A pillars are a mess and I am no fabricator. So I am scratching my head on how I am going to repair it. Since my kid is going to be driving it I want it to be structurally sound. Didn't mean to ramble, Hello! I would post pics, but site says I can't.

My name is Willem and I am from the Netherlands. I joined this forum for the tech stuff & info.

I'd like to post some pics but I'm not allowed yet.
My truck is a '85 CUCV M1008 (yes its a K30). Its been lifted with brand-X springs.
After I got stuck taking it offroad for the first time I replaced the 33" street tires with 37" BFG Baja's on recentered Humvee wheels.
I destroyed the 6.2 diesel (with some help of the previous owner) and since replaced it with a 454 crate engine. It goes nicely now.
The 454 runs on propane.

I didn't just buy this truck for the amazing paintjob or the plush ride, I occasionaly play with it too. I've taking it to a beach trial, a tractorpull and a mud trail, and it did nicely at everything.

But there is still a lot of work to do. Apart from the engine, lift and tires, it's still pretty much stock. Its a daily driver, and I want to be able to cruise this thing at 75 MPH, when the funds allow it I'll swap in a 4L80E and a NP205. But first I have to solve some nasty vibrations in the driveline.

I also need to go to crossover steering, and when the funds allow it, hydro assist. But since I'm on a tight budget, things like that (and 4links and coilovers, and a boxed chassis, and and and...) will have to wait.

I'm not going to post much, occasionaly asking a stupid question but mostly just lurking.
 
New to the forum. From Chico, Ca and I own an 87 K5 Blazer Silverado. It currently has a 4 inch lift with Rancho 9000s and 33s. Got it this way from a buddy. Looking to eventually lift it higher and throw some bigger tires on it.
 
well im just getting back into 4 wheeling after a 11 year break, i bought a house did some remodel and finished my 54 ford customlinebut i still kept riding dirt bikes and working the pit for my friends desert moto racing team as well as working the pits for another friend in the dirt sprint car scene
my first rig was a 74 1/2 ton that was locked front and back and after a year off beating on it i put 1 ton under it locked front and back as well ive been to the rubicon quite a few times with it until the frame cracked behind the cab.
i then built a 78 K5 blazer with all the goodies from the truck and wheeled that untill i bought the house and needed a work truck now i have another blazer and ready to start all over again

Hi, I'm Jon from CT. I'm new to the site but not to K5's. My dad had a 1970 that he bought new, and I've had a 1972 that I got in 1977 and then I had a 1982 Diesel. Then I had a 1985. and after that I had pickups until I just picked up a 1994 Blazer Sport. It's been way too long since I've had a Blazer!
