Introductions & Greetings

New guy here from south eastern NC. I've always been a fan of the old K5's and just recently bought my first one. Picked up an 80 blazer with the 350. Its got ~4in of lift and I got a set of 36.5 rvt's and 37 tsl bloggers both on wheels with it. Motor runs strong but the truck needs a fair amount of work. I'm looking forward to doin some learnin from y'all.

Hello all, my name is Byron. I am a Flight Engineer in the Air Force and fly the AC-130U "Spooky" gunships here in FL.

I currently have a '92 K1500 Blazer that is bone stock, but I have lots of plans for it, mainly a 383 stroker motor, SAS, gears and lockers. Years ago I had a '91 K5 with around 9 inches of lift and 38's.

Looking forward to being a part of the community here!

Hello, my name is Doug and I am now building my first 4x4. I have a nice 79 GMC Jimmy with a 400 SB. It is lifted 8 inches total and sits on 35" tires. The issues that I need some advice on is for a transmission. It has a TH350 but I hat it. After the gear swap it now has good excelleration but ZERO top end. I dont want a racecar, but to be able to cruze at 60 would be nice. Does anyone have any recommendations for a 5 speed manual, or mayby there is an AOD out there that can handle trails?

New Member from Northern California

Hello,

My son is in High School and close to getting his license. Living close to the Rubicon Trail many of the students have 4x4's. My son has been wanting a truck or SUV for his first car and I am in the process of purchasing a 1985 K5 (all original) from the 2nd owner who by chance is also friends with the original owner. Both are older gentlemen and never abused the truck.

It has been years since I have been under the hood of a car as motorcycles are what I spend my time in the garage on. I will be looking for advice as to how to best take care of the K5 and what upgrades and mods are most popular.

Thanks!

New from va beach. Picked up an 88 blazer that already has a 6 in lift and it had 31 in tires. I have since put 36in iroks and have pulled the interior apart. I plasti dipped all the plastic pieces on the inside. Before I put everything back in I am going to rhino line the inside. It came with a new dash and Carpet kit from lmc and the engine was rebuilt about 40,000 miles ago, It doesn't leak a drop I'll post pics once I get everything complete

Hey Ya'll from Pumpkintown SC.

Yes there is a real place called Pumpkintown.... no there isn't banjo music playing... well not all the time... lol. I just bought my first K5 even though I have had many Chevys. learned to drive back in the day in a Suburban. but this is my new fun toy... the truck is an '83 GMC Jimmy. runs drives and has newer paint. the first thing I looked at was the normal rust and or repaired ruse and ther ereally isn't any.... it's a southern thing.... coming originaly from Pa... this is truely a great thing! anyway, I'm looking for any newbie tips and tricks to mak the truck better, it already has a 350 and headers. it's the 700r. auto hubs replaced with manual ones. it's a nice truck. I'm not an extream trail guy.... but the truck might see some fire tower road action and I want to get down to the coast and do some on beach surf fishing!

New Boulder Suburban

Hello, my name is Chris, I am a mechanical engineer who recently moved to Boulder, CO. I sold my Subaru because I realized it wouldn't hall all the stuff I wanted to carry and wouldn't go where I wanted to go. So I got an 87 Suburban 1500 4x4. Right now it is stock and I don't have any real crazy plans for it. Maybe some 31" tires, fix the rear suspension sag and get a better bike carrying and camping setup for it.

been trolling for awhile finally got a 1970 jimmy after a 16hour drive, 3 hours in a road closure and a uhaul trailer with no lights

Truck has 6" pro comp lift,3" body, 35" pro comp tires, no motor, a 4spd borg that's getting pulled and a np205, 4.10 gears in 75 suburban axles with discs all around
love to post pics but paying a membership after dragging wife and 3 kids through this adventure was enough for now

New guy

Hey guys,
Im Doug from visalia CA. Just acquired an 85 K5 project and found some good information on hinge pin replacements (first project on the rig) on your site. This truck brings me back to the younger days of buying a brand new 77 GMC K10 stepside. Owned and wheeled it for 17 years. Tried the jeep thing for a few years but it's good to be back to the bowtie. Thank for letting me in!

New message

Hello All, I have been a fan of CK5 for many years, even set up an account a long while ago. I'm a 49 year old gearhead originally from south western PA, now residing in the northern pan handle of WV. My truck is an unfulfilled dream, a 1969 Blazer that i bought from the original owner in 1989. Long story short, wife - very very old house - newer house - kids - work etc all took priority and my poor 69 has been sitting at the back of my family's fab shop for the last 22 years. I will post some photos as soon as i become familiar with the site. I'm throwing this out to all you First Gen K5 guys.... unless a group of air wrench wielding elves descend upon my garage.... THE 69 IS UP FOR SALE ! Can you see the tear in my eye? Anyway, good to actually be part of the CK5 family. Jim B.

From belgium...

Hi, I am new to this forum and I plan to buy a K5. I live in Belgium near Antwerp and I own one other 4x4, manufactured in Belgium in 1952 and based on the Land Rover Series 1, it is an army jeep with all accessoires and beautifully restored, 2l engine 4cyl weight just 1 ton...

I had a test drive today with something else and more furious:laugh:...always been a fan of big chevies and for sure the K5. The car looks good, drives good, sounds good but I am not sure onthe VIN number. It is a 1978 built in Switzerland Sienne and I would like to know where I should find the VIN of the chassis? Any feedback or pictures is welcome! I hope this is a good truck so I can remain on this forum :D
