Name is Patrick, I live just north of Charlotte. I've been hunting for K5's on Craigslist out here... Slim pickings and fat prices on most things. I've got an 02 Silverado ext cab long bed that I've had since brand new, looking to trade for an 85-91 K5

Hello, my name is Geno. I'm in Vegas, though I intend to eventually end up back in Colorado at some point soon. Just picked up my first K5; it's an 87 and I'm stoked to get into restoring it. Bought it about a month ago from a guy here who said it had been sitting for 6 months due to a bad fuel pump. Turned out he lied quite a bit, but that's not uncommon for Craigslist. Dropped the tank and it was sludged out, the sending unit was caked over. It had to have been sitting for at least 2 years. I just replaced the tank, fuel pump, sending unit, spark plugs/wires, distributor cap, and gave it it's first tune-up in a long time, and it's got some life in it. 350 sounds good, no smoke, only a few small leaks.
Anyways, just wanted to say thanks for the add and I look forward to learning some new things on these boards.

Hi I'm 18 years old and I own a 1983 k5 blazer I've owned it for 2 years but I cannot get the glass up In the tail gate there's power in the switch but I think the cables stripped... But seeing how the glass is stuck down I cannot get behind the motor or anything any ideas?!

Welcome to the board. There are multiple threads on this. And they usually are not answered here. Go to the garage and hunt around. But this is the short version.
If the glass is down, the tailgate should open. Remove the panel. At the bottom of the glass should be 2 metal bars bolted to the bottom of the glass with 2 bolts each. Remove those and the glass should slide back (because the gate is down). Support the glass with something or it may brake. This is a good time to clean and re-lube the regulator also.

I've been lurking for a while, pulling lots of great expertise and ideas from tons of threads. Thought it was time to introduce myself properly. The blazer is about 6 months new to me. Pretty much bare stock when I bought it with the exception of the lift (4"), tires (older Big O mud terrains) and exhaust (flowmaster). Mostly rust-free with the exception of the front floor pans. I'm not much of a mechanic but am figuring out things just fine as I go. With the exception of the initial tune-up, most everything I've done so far is cosmetic. In any case, here's my rig...

So I figured it was time to introduce myself. Ive been lurking for a while and just trying to absorb all the info I can. I am going to try and get a membership soon, just have alot going on right now...
Years ago I bought a 1979 GMC Sierra, 4x4, sm465, 4" lift and 35's. I loved that truck. Its been a decade since I owned it and still had monthly dreams about driving it somewhere.
Fast Forward, I have two kids a 7 year old girl and a newborn (1 month and a few days old now) and I really wanted that style of truck again but needed some space. I owned a few jeeps and loved the top down ready for adventure attitude they had but I really wanted something I could buy, pay off and work on. That 79 was cake to work on.
Long story short I had been researching k5's online, seeing what they sell for and everything. My wife and I were outside and this k5 drives by the house and I say "Thats the truck i need honey!" a few weeks later it was up for sale in a church parking lot, we checked it out and ended up getting it.
1990 k5 Blazer
It has a 6" lift, not sure what brand.
35" courser mt's that look brand new.
14 bolt full floater, disc brake conversion.
NP 205 transfer case swapped in.
4l60 automatic.

Most of the panels on the truck appear to have been replaced and just spray painted white. Very little rust.
Things I have already replaced:
Door locks, the previous owner did not have any working keys to the doors.
Interior lights didnt work, swapped out door switches.
Headlight didnt work, wasnt hooked up properly.
I could really use some help figuring out the following:
What seatbelts will work in the rear? I am missing hardware to make the seatbelts work. I have the spots in the top for shoulder belts but the bench seat has retractable female lap belts. I believe the female lap belts were intended to be used with the male ends that bolt to the floor but since mine wasnt set up for that im stuck. Im leary of buying a "universal" kit and I cant find just the male ends that bolt on either side of the floor. What part from LMC truck should i buy?
Ive got some questions about the np205 swap (Speedo and VSS but ill ask them in the appropriate sections when i get a membership. I have already researched the parts etc but wanted to clarify a few things before i lay down cash.
Anyhow, here is a pic of the truck.

Not sure when they changed over to 3 point rear belts, might be 90-91 only. I know my 87 has rear lap belts ONLY. Sounds like someone swapped in an earlier rear seat, for whatever reason, which would have the female retractable ends in it that would click into male ends bolted to the floor.
If you are fine with lap belts only, find a set of male ends from an earlier K5. Top can be removed and you still have (lap only) belts.
If you want the 3 point set up you may need to find a rear seat and belts from a later truck with the 3 point system. Problem is, the rear belts become useless when you remove the top.
Super slick solution, adapt a 3rd row seat from a newer Suburban to your K5. These seats have a 3 point system integral to the seat, which means you can remove the top AND have a good, modern 3 point seat belt system in the rear. BUT, you need to be sure about your fab skills to mount that seat properly so that it (and it's passengers) don't go flying out of the truck in the event of an accident.

Id love to do seats out of a newer suburban, do you know what years I should look for? most salvage yards have gotten rid of their older stuff so its getting harder and harder to find the right parts anymore. you can pm me if you want as to not clog up this thread if that would be better. thanks for your help.
Once you up yourself to membership status, there is a thread in the tech articles section all about new seats in old trucks. But you need to be a member to access that section as well as see the pics.
I used 02 Silverado seats in the front of mine, heven't done a rear yet. The rear you want to look for is from the similar era Burbs/Yukons 3rd row.

Im going to up it as soon as I can. Seems to be alot of valuable information here. Money is just a bit tight having bought a truck and having a newborn. I have just been checking ebay and noticed many make and model trucks that had rear seats with seatbelts built into the seat. what sucks is a friend just totalled his suburban recently but gave the truck to the tow company i guess. I would have pulled all kinds of stuff off it but have no way too.

That'll do, but they want too much. Early 00's models work too. Keep an eye on C-list, you'de be surprised how many people trade those trucks in and then realize they have the seats sitting in their garage/basement. You can often pick them up for around $100 or less.

I have a lot of plans for this truck to make it something I can keep forever so it seemed like the right idea to get involved with this forum.
