Hi there, I'm Ryan, I have a 1985 army issue blazer that has been highly modified, always been a square body Chevy fan, I am a diesel and equipment mechanic for a large utility, I put a built up 454, 4 spd, 205, one ton axles with 4:56 gears, all custom built suspension. Mostly use if for off road/ rock crawling. Glad to be a new member!

Cool. I assume it started out as an M1009 CUCV, right? Go ahead and post some pictures (both of you). Especially if you have pictures of the build process & custom suspension. Tech pictures are good.

New member and new K5 owner reporting.

My name is Paul and I live in Western Massachusetts. I just bought a 1991 Chevy Blazer off of Craigslist, and I am hoping that this forum will help me learn how to maintain it and keep it going. It is mostly stock as far as I can tell, and I have no plans to build it. Mostly just drive it the way it is. The reason I bought it is my marriage is on the rocks, and I wanted a good four wheel drive for hauling my kids around in the winter. I already have a four wheel drive pickup truck, but I can't fit all the kids in there, don't you know. I know that an old Blazer is perhaps the not the most logical choice for that purpose. I should really have just bought a Honda CRV or a Toyota Highlander, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. It would be like driving around in a large loaf of Wonder bread, if you catch my meaning (my other cars are a '72 Impala and a '58 Plymouth, that'll give you some perspective.) I had been looking for an older four wheel drive, Suburbans, Broncos, Cherokees, that sort of thing. I saw this one about an hour from me in Vermont, and checked it out. Looked good, so I bought it. I just trailered it home yesterday.

The Blazer has an interesting story. It was purchased new by a fellow out west, maybe in South Dakota. He ended up living in Montana, and put just less than 50,000 miles on it. His automotive interests changed, and the Blazer sat for I am told around ten years unused. In 2013 he decided he wanted to fix up his old Blazer, so he had a lot of work done to it, new crate TBI 350, reman. automatic transmission, went through the transfer case, cleaned the gas tank, brakes, new dual exhaust, new tires, etc. I have no idea why he had all this done after only 50K miles, but I have receipts from Sean's Off Road in Great Falls, Montana for around $11,000 in work. The poor fellow put about a hundred miles on it, and then he died in his sleep. He was a bachelor with no family out there, so his family had it trucked back to Vermont to sell to settle his estate.

The combination of it being a western truck and having sat idle means it has very little rust, as near as I can tell. I plan on removing the carpet in the next few weeks to look at the floor, but there is nothing obvious when I crawled under and looked. The hood and roof are sunburnt, I might just slap some paint on with a brush for now. A lot of guys here will cringe, but I plan on driving it here in the winter, with all the salt. I am in the process of installing a used car lift in one of my barns, so I hope to undercoat it generously with Fluid Film and see how it goes. I'll try to rinse it off on the warm days, that sort of thing.

So, I look forward to hearing from you guys and getting some help with this rig!

Thank you for the friendly invite. I own a 88 V 20 Suburban with a new 383 and freshly overhauled turbo 400 and a 77 Blazer 4X4 no motor, turbo 350 both trucks are completely stock except for the motor upgrade in the Suburban. I'm currently in the process of "Tuning" the Suburban using TunerPro RT along with hardware supplied by Moates. The 2 Station Wagons LOL (that's how AZ titles them) and my wonderfully awesome wife live in Scottsdale AZ.
 
Hi all. Restoring a 87 k5 Blazer 5.7 l, 700r4, 308, 33 tires. Looking for a place to swap ideas and to learn from veterans. Have the Truck 10 yrs but only started restoring it over a year ago. This is the best site for K5s I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. Thx for having me..
 
Hi, I'm Rik and live in Belgium. I'm really into american cars and truck, esp. chevy. A few years ago i restored a third gen camaro and recently i bought a 1991 K5 that is in good condition.
 
Hey from Detroit.
I'm currently shopping for a K5 or 73-87 Pickup. I make LS swap motor mounts that work with these trucks as well as other GM vehicles, but will be developing a setup specific to the C/K trucks.
Step 1 - Find a decent truck as a development project... They're kinda rusty around these parts...

My name is Philippe, I'm french, and came straight from France in february (so please excuse my average English by the way). I'll be staying for one year in flagstaff, for work. Being a huge fan of American cars and trucks, I bought a red 350 ci 86' Blazer K5. There's still alot of work to do on it, so I think that this site will help me alot in the future ^^

It's not my first truck, in France I have a 5" lifted 93' Nissan Patrol Y60 since 2009, but I don't think you have this truck in the US. It's a really cool truck, great offroader ! google it ;D

2 years ago, I bought a cheap 93 454 suburban, when I was an exchange student (also in flagstaff, at NAU), and I did a road trip across the US. From Flagstaff to Atlanta, up to new york and Niagara falls, then heading back to the west coat, crossing the central/northern states (Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas etc...) to Los Angeles, and back to Flagstaff, all in one month. The truck did really good, that's why I'm sticking with Chevy from now on :) I also did a little bit of offroading with the suburban, and I bought some books on offroading trails in Arizona, so I had to buy a truck again because I'm planning on finishing those books !! There are amazing sceneries in northern Arizona, that you can access only by foot, or by 4x4, and I don't want to miss any of them.

So I chose the K5 blazer because one of my dorm resident had one when I was at NAU, and I just thought it looked badass, and I said to myself "next time you come to the US, you'll have to get one" So, here I am ! Back in the US, with the blazer I wanted ! =D

will do !! right now it's getting an engine rebuilt, but as soon as it's ready to hit the trails, I'll be happy to go explore further than arizona !!

Hi Guys,

I appreciate this site as a resource and happy to be a member. I'm on my second CUCV M1009 and looking forward to installing my first lift and bigger tires etc.

Right now the rig is stock with 6.2L diesel, TH400, NP208, 10-bolts with eaton posi rear. Very nice condition and low miles but rubber suspension parts are tired so time to lift! Still researching and trying to learn, but headed towards a 2.5" lift (ORD, all the goodies and likely all springs), and 33" tires.
