Introductions & Greetings

Another newbie here from south louisiana, currently building my first 4x4. Picked up a 89 K5 a couple months ago, have the 6.0/80e in and currently working on the 1 ton swap. In the last few nights of reading already found tons of great information.
Glad to have ya here

My first post & might as well be a newbie with my recently acquired 85 K5. Been away from them for quite few years. Live in the Las Vegas valley and do some exploring north or here and some in AZ. Tons of info here for learning and hope to be able to contribute.

Welcome aboard!

Couple guys in your area, @Phil513 & @1-ton

Very cool, welcome! I actually live in Henderson. I joined a local club in January and we go exploring once a month, and have been on a few other runs on my own.

After lurking for a while, you jerks talked me into joining the club.

1987 supposedly sporting lockers and the full vert. New 35" MTs. And, required for the wife here in AZ, air blows ice cold.

I'll post up a build thread as I break stuff

Very cool! Looks like a decent job was done making it a full vert, that might put a damper on the ice cold ac though. :D

I like it!

I'm back! Ish. It has probably been a decade since I last wheeled. I got out because of the cost, and stayed out because I am always to busy. However, I recently came across a great deal on a cucv m1028, and couldn't pass it up. So now the burb is a one ton, and can already see the never ending parade of upgrades in my head. So for better or worse, I am back in, and will probably be up for a local wheeling trip in the not to distant future. :)

Welcome back

Greetings everyone. Just joined am in the Dallas area. I'm going to be looking to source a few items because I just managed to score myself a 1985 GMC Jimmy Sierra Classic. It needs a motor, and then to have the trans, transfer, and all the stuff attached to the motor so I can get it running. Not my first go round but it has been a while. About 20 years ago I had a 1977 Jimmy High Sierra and it was really really rough when I got it lol but of course back then there wasn't nearly as many internet related salvage resources (also I was poor as heck). I don't have any pictures of it, to my regret but I've been wanting to find me another one so I can do it all so much better this time.

Here is the Jimmy 2.0. The beast sits in storage, waiting for a heart transplant. I'm hoping to get enough stuff together to at least get it running and driving by the time the Dallas winter comes back (Laugh as you may if any of you are in the area). I think aside from the motor I am going to be looking to find a rear seat and a drive shaft. I know I can just get a new driveshaft made (and that is probably going to be far easier to do after 30 years of who knows what mileage and use, but right now the Rear seat looks like it is going to be a bit of a beast to find without spending stupid money. Going to search through the forums here but if anyone can offer a recommendation I'd sure appreciate it.

My roadmap is simple, clean the inside out and put down some lizard skin and other stuff across the inside to deaden noise and insulate, put in some nice OEM carpet, new side panels if needed (have not inspected them too closely).. Clean the top, probably respray it with Line-x and replace all the seals, along with coat the inside with more lizard skin to sound deaden the cavern and insulate from heat (and cold, lol). If I don't find myself a rear seat then I'll probably put in a sound system with a sub box that will account for a rear seat with some creative adaptation of something from another vehcile (like a jump seat or something)

As far as power goes, I'll probably just throw in a rebuilt 350 with some of the edelbrock performer parts and a decent exhaust. The trans is already a 700r4 with the np208 (boo to that one), but I never had enough resources back in the day to even consider what could be mated with a np 205 so feel free to smarten me up when and where possible. I'm gonna have to do a little reading and forgot to look closer at the data plate to figure out the gear ratio's are but I figure it's going to be 2.07's are some other garbage highway gears. It already has 33 x 12.50's on it but they are pretty much worn, weather rotted, etc etc but at least it gives me an idea of if the springs are shot (they aren't, yay) and at least I can swap some in without really worry about a lift right away.

Every project has a starting point and here is mine: Please point me in the direction of sanity!!!

Welcome sir!

You came to the wrong place if direction of sanity is necessary.

Otherwise, right turn Clyde!

Always good to start a build thread, just follow the link. Lots of ideas and help will come from it

Welcome. Start a thread with your questions, you'll find answers there.

The np208 and 700r4 both have advantages over their alternatives. And if you're going to belittle one of them I'd pick the 700r4. In factory form they don't take abuse as well as the other tranny options GM offered. But I'd doubt you'll run into a problem with the 208.

I have not had a chance to search too much but are there any standout builds anyone is aware of that may include something to the tune of the GM 5.3 and turbos? There's just so much room for activities under the hood, lol. I don't want to go diesel, unless I happen to score some insane deal on a setup, but it's an open engine bay so the slate is blank. I was thinking, if I wanted to get it running and driving for the time being I could find the 5.3 and it obviously is enough for most circumstances but later down the road add in the turbo for more of an exclamation point on the project.

:)

There is a sand hopping dune junky on here with a turbo motor

I think his name is mr.clean

Hello everybody! So I'm kinda new to CK5 I suppose. Been a member since 07 but have been in hiatus. Ran into some difficult financial problems blah blah blah... Still got my 85. Just now ready to give it some much needed love. Will post pics here and there. A tall task awaits. Trucks hasn't even been cranked in over a year. Engine is probably seized. Was thinking about switching it out from a TBI to a carb anyways. Look forward to resurrecting the old beast.
