Thanks Wes, much appreciated and yes, A-10s are bad ass...and a maintenance nightmare! lol But I'm glad they are on our side!! Good to see I'm not flying solo with an old Ford hanging around. I'm starting a rebuild on the Bronco next year for the wife. She has stuck with me since 1990 and owe it to her.

Welcome! I read that the A-10 was supposed to be decommissioned, but someone decided to re-wing them and keep them going till 2030+. Does that sound correct?

They having been trying to kill it since I was at Myrtle Beach in the late '80's, but it proved it's worth in the Golf war since. There is not a better aircraft for CAS!

Most of them have new wings, and they are slated to go into the 2030's...but funding can quickly change that.

Will do once I get focused on the rebuild! Right now I'm fixing what needs fix'd....not quite Roadkill style but happy to be driving it!
It’s worth it to document your fixins and rebuild in a build thread. It can be a good reference for you later, and will keep all of your projects on the truck in one spot

That’s sweet. I’m just a dumb civilian and don’t know much, but I’ve always been in love with the A-10 and the AH-64.

Greetings all! New to K5's and this forum but been wrenching/building vehicles for 35+ years. Still have my first car, 1969 Cougar with built a 460(won't do that again), to include a '69 Bronco Sport, '77 Trans AM, '95 Formula that has been drag raced since new and featured in GM High Tech Performance, and a '95 Firebird convertible for the Mrs. The barn is full, didn't need this Blazer but it's cool.

So I bought a 1 family owned 1978 4x4 with the Cheyenne package. 100% stock, quite a bit of rust on the rockers and bed sides, but frame is solid. They quit driving it around 2000 because steering was worn out. So far, Rough Country 2" lift springs and shocks all the way around. Replaced steering box with a Red-Head unit, new pump/hoses. Went through the fuel system, repaired the speedometer, new master cylinder, and built a healthy 406 small-block from some parts in the shop. I have driven it around 5000 miles since I bought this 9 months ago. Plan to drive it until I can pull the body for a full restore in a couple of years.

Fulltime job - aircraft maintenance superintendent at a local A-10 base. Been in the military for 34 years and plan to retire this fall.

Cheers all - Jon
Welcome Jon I also work in aircraft maintenance as a sheetmetal/a&p your barn sounds like a dream to find nightmare to build lol.

You know how it goes, when people hear you work on cars everyone wants help. I tell them I don't have time to work on my own junk! It is a sheetmetal man's friendly rich environment for sure

Thanks for your service Jon!
welcome to the addiction of squarebodies.
we used to get the pleasure of hearing/seeing the A10’s flyover here in SW MI. @ the BattleCreek ANG base. They sound like nothing else. Unfortunately they have moved them all from the base here.
Did you see the Cougar running dragweek last year….pretty badass.

Thanks 76zimmer! I've always liked the square bodies. I had a '76 short bed 4x4 in the 80's, in fact, the 400 that I built for the Blazer came out of that truck. It's been sitting in the barn for 30+ years waiting for a home.

I remember when the A-10's were at BattleCreek quite well. Funny how they moved the A-10s from there to Selfridge, Selfridge F-16s at the time came to us down here in Fort Wayne, then about 3 years later we get some of the A-10s from Selfridge, others from Fort Smith, and some from Willow Grove and Korea.

The Cougar I remember was a red '68 if that is the one you are talking about. I always like them because you just don't see many of them running around. But I regret putting the 460 in it back in high school...it's such a pain in the ass to work on. But now I feel stuck with the 460 so I have a new one on the stand ready to go in... lol...

Thanks Gweak! What’s up CK5? I’ve been hearing great things over the last few years, and finally got my hands on a pair of K5s.

First one is the wife’s ‘84 Jimmy Sierra Classic. It’s staying 4wd and fairly factory with the exception of a carb-swapped 350 Vortec for a little more wow out of the go button. Will mostly be a fun weekender, boat hauler, camping expedition, mild overlanding rig. Basically it will be used for exactly what K5s were built to do.

Build #2 will be my hot rod. It’s a ‘78 Blazer Cheyenne. As it sits now, it’s basically a frame and tub. Plans as of now are to take it down to frame, 2wd swap, lower with coil over conversion, and stab a cammed 5.3/4l80e into it. I’d love for it to be a fun daily-ish driver that can also be beat on in the road course and driven back home.

Thanks to you all for giving me a place to ask the stupid questions I know I’ll ask, and tell funny stories about the repercussions of not asking them sooner. As soon as I figure out how to start a “build,” I’ll get pictures up. Thanks!

Welcome @BigBad_HotRods

I see Greg should has already asked questions to get the build thread going. If you have trouble or questions, he’s been here a long time and can point you the way to go
Lots of other guys on here will be more than happy to answer questions as well, don’t be shy
