Introductions & Greetings

Hello my Name is Matt. I have been building a wide range of cars since I was a kid. I grew up in a muscle car family, in a neighborhood filled with low riders. My first cars were VW‘s before I built a Z28 that I managed total on my 20th birthday. Pretty much was old Toyota off-road builds for the following couple of decades with a few low riders show cars and a Jeep. The last eight years I have built several 2500 Rams all sitting on 37-40” tires And a few more 60’s customs. I Just bought a 79’ Blazer to build with my son over the next 5 years, he just turned 11yo and so I bought his dream truck. As long as he keeps his nose clean and works hard I will give him the keys to this K5 on his 16th birthday.

I spend a lot of time the trails in a Moab, Colorado, Oregon coast and live with my wife and two kids in Montana.
When you come to Oregon, let me know. Hopefully winter time. We’re snow wheelers.

Hello my name is Richard from south east VA. I acquired a Dodge Dana 60 kingpin, 14 bolt rear axle, TH400, NP205, and a set of 40's . I originally was going to modify my CJ7 on 35's and Dana 44's or build another jeep with these parts but I am strongly considering building my 2WD 87 Chevy R10 beater to accept these parts. A 117" wheelbase, air conditioning, and being able to drive my build on the street are appealing. From what I read the transmission hump in mine is not as tall? I do wheel the east coast so the only thing that concerns me is the width. The ORD stepside is my inspiration.

it is not as tall; you are correct.

Will I have to install me drivetrain lower, body lift, or cut out and fabricate a new hump because of that? I want good oil pan and transmission clearance for the rocks.

Isn't the driver side of the dodge front axle longer? If you use it with the stock leaf spring config in a chevy you'll end up with the axle offset an inch or two to the driver side, unless you're going with multi-link suspension.

The entire axle is a bit narrower, and the spring perch's a bit wider. Ord sells bushings to correct the spring space, the axle width isn't really noticeable
I'm in the midst of attempting to correcting this spacing issue with a few strategically placed 1/4 inch spacers. I've got the ORD bushing kit waiting on the work bench, was just wondering if there was an easier method.

Hey gang, going to be working on my buddy's 87 K5 soon. I'll post pics once it gets to my house. First thing I'll be doing is replacing the motor mounts, changing all the fluids, rebuilding the carb, then trying to get it commifonia smauged. After it passed smaug, Lord willing, I'll be completely baselining the vehicle and replacing most of the interior (seats, headliner, etc.) Your wisdom, support, and knowledge are greatly appreciated. I'll be documenting as much as I can.

Hi @Blurzur Welcome looking forward your posts and questions 87 tbi should be easier to re equip smog wise than say a CCC. Good on you for taking on the project

You're in the right place. Many of us have done, are doing, major and small repairs, modifications small and large.
, and/or have been or are mechanics.
If you have any question don't be shy.:D

I'm going to look at a 1973 blazer at 2:00 PM today. about 12K, looking at another one on Monday around 30K. I'm excited about these vehicles. I'm looking forward to becoming an owner and getting started working on it. I guess the work depends on the condition and of course the price.

Howdy all, from the Buckeye state (O-H). Bought my first Blazer in October, 85 K5, 350, 10 bolts, 700R4, only 73K on the odo. Bought it out of Denver and had it shipped, can't find Blazers in Ohio that aren't mud boggers or trail rigs. It's gutted down to the driver seat and steering wheel at the moment, and I do drive it this way cuz I love it. Entire new interior is in the garage waiting for warm weather. I don't think it likes the lower elevation cuz it takes an hour of cranking to get it to fire up. Admittedly I haven't even touched the motor yet, tune-up and some carb would probably work wonders, but I'm trying to hold off on touching the engine until I sell my '69 C-10 to fund a new 383 with FI. Everybody and their brother goes LS but I want a good old fashion small block (ok, a bored small block). Going from a pick up on airbags to a lifted full size Blazer. I've always been an off-roader though, owned several Wranglers and big ole pick-em ups over the years. Dad had Blazers and Scouts back in the 70's. Soon as my upgrade goes through I'll post pics in the build forum (says I don't have privileges at the moment). Been lurking around here several months, finally joined, lots of knowledge on the board, looking forward to contributing what I can!

Welcome!
There is nothing wrong with building a small block, IMO.
It will be cool to see what you do.
If you have a chance, start a build thread in the driveway section.
