For a really long time my slider windows on my k5 top haven't been locked because the latches are broken. About a week ago I wired them closed. Today I locked my keys in the truck for the first time... :doah:

Good thing I'm well versed in removing slider windows with a flat head screw driver.

Well, the flat head screw driver cost $8 at the grocery store, so I didn't buy it. I figured I'd just use a key to get the window out. Then, after waiting through a long line at the check out, it dawned on me that the lack of keys was the fundamental problem.

:doah: :haha:

I wasn't about to go wait in that line again, so I decided to be resourceful. After not finding a proper rock, nor a steady penny on the ground, I realized I could use my belt buckle.

Had the window out in less than a minute.

:D

Which window did you break?

Yes. It's a bit disturbing how quickly one can break into a Blazer that way. I literally had the window or in under a minute. It might have helped that my seals are good, pliable, and that I've swapped numerous topper windows.

One thing I hate about power windows, other than the fact they often wont go up without assistance half the time,(or just plain fail period),is you can usually put your palms on the door glass and push down, and get the window to "skip" and go down quite easily, after they have some years on them...handy if you locked your keys in--but also a boon to theives who want a quick silent means of entry...

I've learned to carry two full sets of keys to everything I have with a lock on me at all times--its saved my butt many times when I'd lock my keys in the truck--or had one snap off in the door lock one snowy day..

One time years ago I locked my keys in my Camaro while at a grocery store. After calling the locksmith I sat down on the curb to wait. The locksmith pulled into the parking lot from the far side so I got up and walked around to the passenger side of the car to waive him down. That is when I noticed the passenger side window was down. :doah:

I don't even have keys to my door locks. The GF locked her door once, so I just unsnapped the soft top, reached inside to unlock it, and let her in. :haha:

Extra keys can be made by a hardware store correct? (Dumb question, I know)

I remember seeing those kind boxes on most of the old '70's detective shows. Made a good stand in for tracking devices too.

The gears are stripped on the window crank of my old truck so you can slide the window up and down in the track. Then you can start it without a key. I haven't worried about my truck keys for years.

Bought a new truck (if 06 is new) a couple years ago, locked my keys in it the first week. Luckily I had a couple spares.

Now that's funny sh*t! :haha:

Everything I own has a hide a key. Dad taught me that. I have never locked keys in a car. Lost a few sets over the decades.

I used to do mobile paint repair at dealerships on used cars. Always rolled the window down first thing. Sales people were frequently looking for lost keys. Usually found them in the ignition.

one thing I love about the 72 K5, it is impossible to lock your keys in it
