I'm in the process of converting my 87 1/2t 2wd to a 3/4t 4wd. Got the B52 kit from Kurt, and the rear spring front hangers. Went to the yard today to get an axle, t-case, crossmember and some other misc. stuff. Got to looking at different 2wd/4wd frames, and thought I could just unbolt the 2wd crossmember and leave the motor mounts/stands there, and make a crossmember later. Well, it looks like I'm gonna havta pull the motor to do that, of which I don't want to do. So got to thinking of swapping the body over to a 4wd frame.

But anyways, there is an army surplus place not too far from me that has some trucks and parts. I asked them about a rolling chassis, and said $1k. This was maybe the cab, no motor/tranny, front 60 and rear 14ff. I know I can sell the front for at least half that, don't really need a 60 anyway. I thought it would be easier to swap 4wd stuff over to mine, cause finding a clean 4wd frame in the northeast is almost non existant.

1K doesn't sound too bad if you are getting the big axles with likely 4.56 gears and MAYBE a detroit in the rear. Ask more questions. No engine, no tranny but what about t-case? May have a 205 from behind a t-400 which might be tricky trying to locate that tranny- see if the adaptor is on there. Bout all I can offer.

It'll be a TH400/208, detroit rear for sure. D60's still fetch ~$1000 so you already have your money back. Seems like a no brainer to me even if it comes with no sheet metal at all.

Thats more than fare, just make sure it does have a 60 in the front.More than one of those trucks have been bought thinkin it had a 60 in it,only to find it's been swapped out.

you talkin ken kubblos surplus?

last i know he didnt have much in 1ton stuff. and 1 he did he didnt want to sell as it was sold.

clean 1ton frame and 60/14ff with detroit 1k sounds good to me.

thats seems pretty fair. i have 3 m1008s rollers in my yard. been looking at them for weeks. anyway, if its in good shape and close by. sounds good to me.

we know that boss. he knows to pm me if he wants it. and thats why i didnt list a price .

looks like you edited it anyway. so i sent a pm . sorry........

Yup, best to go straight to pm's with that stuff. Otherwise it sends a mixed message...which just makes my job harder.

Thanks

I was just there last Friday when we got all that snow. Didn't have to work that nite, so went to Hawleyton's town barn, they have one out back. Last I talked to them about it, said it will be available 1st of the year. Went to talk to them again, said it has another year to go. So, since I was rite there, went to Kublo's. They had a couple out back, and went in and talked to them, said 1k for a rolling chassis. If I can get it cheap enough, might even get it without the front 60. Don't really need it for 35s anyways. Everyone says that 60 fronts are worth a grand, only ones I've sold for that are HP60s....

Maybe you should try selling a D60F here in California, they bring between $1000.00-$1200.00 all day long.

really wow, if you know anyone out that way looking could you send them my way. have a bunch of them now. thanks

Prices are a regional thing... in CA where the trucks don't rust out the axles are fewer and farther between. Up in the NE, the body rots away and leaves behind axles by the dozen ;)

Why do you think everyone in the midwest and northeast freeks out every time we cut up a rust free truck out here and post pics of the body heading off to scrap?

I think it was over the summer, I tried selling some 60s. Can't remember what they were, but tried selling them for $1200 shipped, and nobody wanted them. Maybe cause gas was stupid expensive dunno.

I'm still thinking which way I want to go. Maybe if they bring the price down will be the deciding factor.
