Is a little bit of weather checking ok?

8 years on a set of BP isn't bad though.. that sounds like there at least past the date code life. Mine will sit outside all year. I have no internal place for it

Most of us probably don't pay a lot of attention to the tread area for cracking, but at least on my tires, it's definitely something that happens, and has done so for nearly 16 years(?!). Relying on sidewall cracks, storage method, or use to determine good or bad might not be a reliable method.

I've had 5 tires delaminate the tread section, and all of them were from what looked like insignificant cracks between lugs (no sidewall cracking). New tires are expensive, but watching a blown tire wreck your rig is more expensive yet.

I still think about that each time I see the wrinkled fender or weird fuel filler angle. Half a tire's worth of swinging tread does a good job of tearing things up. And looking for a replacement tire on the side of the road presents its own headache.

I'm pretty picky now about aged tires. Check your stuff regularly, it's a safety thing.

Years ago I had some radial tires I got that were used,and in excellent looking condition,decide to chuck the entire tread off in one piece at highway speed--luckily it did not flap around and beat the fender to death,instead it just spit right out from under the vehicle..

I was told sometimes radial tires that have been used in one particular location on a vehicle takes a "set" ,and if you rotate then to the other side of the vehicle,or put the used tire on your vehicle in a different spot than they originally were in,and now rotate in the opposite direction,they are much more likely to fail in this manner..
I have not had that happen in decades since then though..

Old radials did in fact have problems with that. Haven't for years though
