Is a little gloating ok?

I would think region/climate/salt/motor condition, etc all factor in too....

Yes, that's why I commented earlier about how the aluminum in the engine bay gets all "chalky". It's not put away wet, but I'm sure it gets damp from humidity, and as it sits in the shade, it stays damp. The header wrap probably doesn't help. But being stainless, is that really going to affect it? It's not like it's exposed to salt or anything else along those lines.

that would ALL depend on the quality of the stainless, and the welds/build..

as I alluded to earlier, I've seen both ends of the spectrum in the marine world.. just about THE worst environment you can get.. high quality local stuff that holds up great, and cr@ppy Taiwan stainless that get's hammered..

I think Kerts summary is.... If you wrap them, don't get them wet and let it sit. If the wrap gets wet, run it for a bit to dry it out.

If you go hit a mud puddle and then park it in the garage for a month.....

That pretty much sums it up but I'd also add to that, it's incredibly humid around here in the summer. Most surfaces get moisture on them. I'd argue that the header wrap will keep the moisture off of the steel of the header itself. Considering its not very absorbent material.

Like dyeager said, its anecdotal evidence at best.

Header companies void warranties and maybe that is all the reason that is needed not to use the wrap. That reason makes a lot of sense to me.

ok, here's da chit..... best "wrap" you could ever run.... send your headers off to a place like Metcalf http://www.mmxhaust.com/ and have em wrap em with this hard black stuff here...

right off the turbo, over stainless, on a custom Mann install I did a few years ago...

sh*t's pretty much impervious... sure it would void a header warranty too probably... but for heat reduction/durability, this sh*t rocks...

I said the best... probably not for the Walmart crowd... :haha:

which unfortunately tends to be about 97% of the country these days... :doah:

just trying to get the "car" crowd to think outside their little "summit racing, auto" thinking...

I like a good deal, but also realize that quality costs. If for nothing else, interested in talking with those folks to find out the cost.

How thick is it if you know?
