Ok just found out there is no reserve. No open bid. Start at $10. Only three of these runs :( So what do they have for engines, etc... Hopefully they have a few dueces 6x6's there.

I thought those were the "Itlis" or something like that. Canadian military doesn't have jeeps.

The Mercedes is replacing those IIRC.

Either the 1.7 L 4 cyl gas engine, or the 1.6 L Turbo Diesel. All came with rear lockers, and some also came with front lockers. All had 5.28 gears.

VW started building them in '78, Canadian government bought all the tooling and had them built here in '85 and '86.

Im thinkin toss some full width axles under that thing and some 38s.

Or that might be a cool body swap :D

Those just look cool .

Look awesome and you wouldn't be afraid of destroying one. I say go for it.

Going to check out the auction this weekend. What a "one night wonder" rig. See how far and hard of a beating it can take. But the gearing and axles sound nice for my Sidekick project.

I am not sure, but i think they are independant front and rear...

Any online link to this auction?

I bet they aren't weak..

I wouldn't mind having one of those with the VW 1.6 diesel--it would be like having my Jetta again, only with 4wd,and 5.28 gears!. .VW diesels are pretty rugged, and hard to kill..and will run upside down!..one of those would be a neat economy 4x4--I got 43 mpg in my Jetta,so those things would probably still get 30mpg or better.. --wish I could get one for 10 bucks..even a hundred would not be outrageous!..

but the VW diesels only put out 52 hp,so they arent very fast..My Jetta went right along though--I could take off and keep up with normal traffic, and it would cruise at 80 mph no problem!--I got it up to 105 mph once and it still had a bit of pedal left !.. :eek1: --I figured I'd better back off before it flew off the road..I never thought it would do more than 85,but 5th gear must have REALLY been an overdive!--I know 4th and 5th are on the Jetta Diesel transaxles..Those things would be lots of fun off road..no trail too small for it--it would fit on dirt bike trails!..

Thoose are really cool. Did you know that VW put a Golf (Rabbit) on top of the frame and sold it as a Golf Country. Some kind of pre-SUV. That's a really cool car. They even had offroadbumpers with front protection and "rockrails" on the side from the factory :D .

No there is no online link that I can find. That was a pic taken by my buddy. I am gonna go up there and have a look today. The guys here say that a guy from Nova Scotia is coming down to bid on them. They might all go to one owner if that is the case. But if I can get one for cheap, look out. I will consider it a go cart and play real hard with it. :D
