Is it really that rare?

loved them subs.theres one down the street i keep threatening my girl that im going to stop by and try and buy it.
 
They used the rockwell 221 in a Shat-load of different rigs Including GMC 2.5 ton 6x6's which used a d-shaft for each rear axle
 
so the rear axle would have a offset rear pumpkin.for the double rear output.i was thinkin he was talkin about a side mount like the 205.i dont believe ive seen the old rockwell centers or neapco.would def be a cool piece to have in the garage.
 
No I think they were both centered IIRC and there was a carrier bearing attached to the forward axle and then a short shaft that ran at angle to the aft axle
 
I believe the last NAPCO 4x4 converted light duty trucks were done around 59, then chevy took over doing it at the factory. I think you could still have NAPCO convert your truck after that but idk for how long. Your burb has dana's under it not a napco axles, they would be a round cover. Anyways its still a awesome truck, and they are hard to come by nevertheless.
 
Those T-cases used a short driveshaft from the tranny to the transfer case instead of being "married" to the tranny (also known as a divorced T-case)--I liked the one in my wagon,it allowed you to put any tranny you wanted in front of it with a minumum of fuss,and the front & rear drive shafts come out at a nearly "level" angle so there is no u-joint troubles from extreme angles..my wagon was on a '69 Suburban chassis that had been shortened 11" to mach the wheelbase of the car,it had a 454/TH350 in it when I owned it for 8 years...

I like the 60-66 Suburban panel trucks a lot,I think they are the sharpest loking GM truck made,with the 55-57 GM Suburbans and pickups a close second!...unfortunately they are probably the hardest ones to come by in god shape for a "reasonable" amount..I saw a 1958 Chevy Suburban "hot rod" on CL this morning (on cape cod listings) for 28K!..its nice,but I doubt many people can afford that kind of $$$$$ in todays economy!..

When I bought the burban 4-5 years ago it had I think the original axles in it. Round cover Eaton rear and closed knuckle drum break 44 front. Now that I think about it, I bought it without the axles, I didn't want them and got the truck little cheaper if I pulled them and gave them back. ATT wanted to go 3/4 ton, already had the axles. I put in a 44HD up front and 60 rear from a 79 1 ton Ford.

After I put those in, drove it around some, and the t-case was growling pretty good on decel. I was gonna swap in a 465/205 combo, but in order to do that, needed to change the master/clutch cylinder since they were in the same case, crossmembers and some other stuff, but after a while, didn't have the money, correct tools or a garage to do it.

It needs a lot of work, every panel has rust, and didn't want to see it rot away anymore, so I sold it. After I sold, it sat for couple years. Go figure.

If you need a good hood and door (which it does, why I got the new pieces) Wood's Auto has them, inless he scrapped them.....
 
yeah last i knew they were still there.. ive been supposed to go get them for months now lol. i was actually going to aask you about the axels too.. sux there not sittin up there with the other stuff for the truck
